Impact of UHPC Tensile Behavior on Steel Reinforced UHPC Flexural Behavior

Yi Shao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between the flexural behavior of steel-reinforced ultrahigh-performance concrete (R/UHPC) and the tensile behavior of the concrete material, which is influenced by the fiber volume. Experimental and numerical tests were conducted, and the results showed that reducing fiber volume has little impact on crack width and crushing resistance, while it increases the ductility of the structural member at low reinforcing ratios. Numerical results indicate that higher reinforcing ratios, steel postyield hardening strength, and lower concrete tensile strength contribute to a more ductile flexural failure.

Inverse Analysis of R-UHPFRC Beams to Determine the Flexural Response under Service Loading and at Ultimate Resistance

Bartlomiej Sawicki et al.

Summary: This paper compares different methods for determining UHPFRC material properties and investigating the synergistic interaction between steel reinforcement bars and UHPFRC in the loading-unloading process. Results show that UHPFRC in the tensile zone of R-UHPFRC members can enter compression during unloading.

Flexural Behavior and Design of Ultrahigh-Performance Concrete Beams

Rafic G. El-Helou et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the flexural behavior of beams made of ultrahigh-performance concrete (UHPC) and proposes a design framework for these beams. The framework considers the effect of material-level properties on flexural behavior and addresses the avoidance of local straining and subsequent hinging of beams. The effectiveness of the framework is verified through comparison with experimental results.

Experimental investigation on flexural and ductile behaviors of rebar-reinforced ultra-high-performance concrete beams

Minghong Qiu et al.

Summary: This paper experimentally investigates the flexural and ductile behaviors of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) beams. The effects of reinforcement ratio, reinforcement diameter, and UHPC cover thickness on the behavior of the beams are studied. Increasing the reinforcement ratio significantly enhances stiffness, flexural capacity, and ductility, while the other two parameters have little influence. Analytical models are established to predict the behavior of the beams, and the predictions match well with the experimental results. The results of this study contribute to the understanding of the performance of UHPC beams and provide guidance for their design.

Prediction and uncertainty quantification of ultimate bond strength between UHPC and reinforcing steel bar using a hybrid machine learning approach

Abdulwarith Ibrahim Bibi Farouk et al.

Summary: This study applies artificial intelligence technique to predict the ultimate bond strength (UBS) between ultrahigh-performance concrete (UHPC) and steel reinforcement bars and quantifies the uncertainty of such values. The results show that the IEPANN model can predict UBS between UHPC and reinforcing steel bars with acceptable accuracy and Monte Carlo simulation is used to assess the uncertainty of the UBS.

Experimental and Computational Evaluation of the Ductility of UHPC Beams with Low Steel-Reinforcement Ratios

M. A. Saqif et al.

Summary: This study focuses on low reinforcement ratios and relatively low levels of fiber reinforcement in UHPC beams to reduce construction costs and increase their appeal. Experimental results show that increasing fiber volume fractions does not necessarily improve structural ductility, while underreinforced design philosophy can make UHPC beams more cost-effective.

Flexural and cracking behaviors of reinforced UHPC beams with various reinforcement ratios and fiber contents

Zheng Feng et al.

Summary: The study found that the reinforcement and steel fibers in UHPC beams can effectively limit crack development, with the contribution of steel fibers decreasing as the reinforcement ratio increases. The interface between the reinforced UHPC beams and the steel reinforcement is weaker in beams with a high reinforcement ratio, with the initial stiffness being greater than that of beams with a low reinforcement ratio. The flexural capacity of UHPC beams increases linearly with the reinforcement ratio.

Flexural strength prediction models of non-prestressed Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) components

Antony Kodsy et al.

Summary: Neglecting the tensile strength of UHPC significantly underestimates the flexural strength of non-prestressed UHPC components. The peak moment curvature of non-prestressed UHPC components is significantly smaller than the ultimate moment curvature. The differences among idealized stress-strain relationships of UHPC in compression and tension do not have significant effect on the predicted flexural strength.

Impact of cyclic loading on longitudinally-reinforced UHPC flexural members with different fiber volumes and reinforcing ratios

Yi Shao et al.

Summary: The study examines the impact of different fiber volumes and reinforcing ratios on the performance of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) beams. The results show that a higher reinforcing ratio and lower fiber volume lead to more localized cracks, delayed steel fracture, and increased deformation capacity of R/UHPC components.
