Interpretation of static and dynamic Young's moduli and Poisson's ratio of granular assemblies under shearing

Yang Li et al.

Summary: The study reveals that under drained conditions, static and dynamic values may not always be equivalent for face-centred cubic and random/disordered packings. Increasing friction coefficient or unloading can lead to elastic recovery beyond the initial elastic range. Stress-induced fabric anisotropy has negligible effect on the comparison between static and dynamic values.

Quantitative prediction of porosity and gas saturation based on a new dual-porosity rock-physics model and Shuey's Poisson ratio for tight sandstone reservoirs

Hongbing Li et al.

Summary: A new dual-porosity model was proposed for accurately predicting high-porosity reservoirs and gas saturation in tight sandstones. By establishing a two-dimensional rock-physics template of P-wave impedance versus Shuey Poisson's ratio and utilizing a global optimization algorithm for inversion, quantitative reservoir prediction was achieved.

Experimental Study on Small-Strain Shear Modulus of Unsaturated Silty-Fine Sand

Kai Yan et al.

Summary: The small-strain stiffness of soil is crucial for accurately predicting the deformation caused by interactions between foundation soil and structures. The study investigated the shear modulus of unsaturated silty-fine sand in Hangzhou Bay, China using a BE-RC combined test system, and found that the shear modulus decayed non-linearly with increasing strain until reaching stable values.

Quantitative prediction of porosity and gas saturation based on a new dual-porosity rock-physics model and Shuey?s Poisson ratio for tight sandstone reservoirs

Hongbing Li et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new dual-porosity model and defines a new Shuey Poisson's ratio to establish a rock-physics template for predicting porosity and saturation in tight sandstone reservoirs. The method has been successfully applied to quantitative reservoir prediction in a gas field in Northwest Sichuan, China, accurately predicting the distribution of high-porosity reservoirs with porosity exceeding 8%.

Poisson's Ratio Characteristic Curve of Unsaturated Soils

Sannith Kumar Thota et al.

Summary: The paper introduces the concept of Poisson's ratio characteristic curve (PRCC) to establish the relationship between Poisson's ratio and degree of saturation. Through calibration and validation, the proposed model can accurately predict the behavior of soils, leading to more accurate assessments in geotechnical engineering applications.
