Convective heat transfer of water flow in intersected rock fractures for enhanced geothermal extraction

Yuedu Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of intersected fractures on heat transfer in geothermal systems, finding that rough dead-end fractures enhance heat transfer and increasing the intersected angle is beneficial for heat production, while enlarging the aperture has little effect.

Operation optimization of the coaxial deep borehole heat exchanger coupled with ground source heat pump for building heating

Yaran Wang et al.

Summary: Geothermal energy is a promising renewable source for district heating. A method to optimize the water flow rates in the coaxial deep borehole heat exchanger of a ground source heat pump system is proposed in this study. The results of the comparison of system operation before and after optimization show that the method has a significant effect on energy-saving operation.

Analysis of heat extraction performance and long-term sustainability for multiple deep borehole heat exchanger array: A project-based study

Wanlong Cai et al.

Summary: Through numerical modeling and field data validation, the study found that Deep Borehole Heat Exchanger (DBHE) arrays can significantly lower outlet temperatures over 20 years, with temperature differences between individual DBHEs leading to changes in thermal load. Therefore, the significance of thermal interaction among individual DBHEs for system sustainability should be considered in the design process.

Effect of groundwater forced seepage on heat transfer characteristics of borehole heat exchangers

Jiuchen Ma et al.

Summary: A system of borehole heat exchangers combined with pumping-injection wells is established in areas with shallow groundwater and slow seepage velocity. Through numerical simulations, it was found that increasing the pumping flow volume leads to a significant increase in Darcy velocity and heat transfer rates for the BHEs. The average heat efficiency coefficient of the BHEs also increases during both cooling and heating stages, but the heat transfer rates start to decrease as the pumping-injection flow volume gradually increases.
