Developemt of Flexible Nanocomposites Based on Poly(ε-caprolactone) for Tissue Engineering Application: The Contributing Role of Poly(glycerol succinic acid) and Polypyrrol

Aliakbar Jafari et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis and characterization of elastomeric PCL/PGSu blends and their nanocomposites with improved surface wettability, tunable mechanical properties, and controlled biodegradation. By tailoring the surface and bulk properties of the scaffolds using a change in PCL to PGSu ratio, adding nano-hydroxyapatite (n-HA) as a filler, and deposition of PPy on the scaffolds, it is possible to engineer scaffolds with customized degradation and mechanical properties.

Antibacterial Electrospun Polycaprolactone Membranes Coated with Polysaccharides and Silver Nanoparticles for Guided Bone and Tissue Regeneration

Davide Porrelli et al.

Summary: The study aimed to enhance the bioactivity of electrospun PCL membranes by coating them with bioactive lactose-modified chitosan (CTL), which can be used for the synthesis and stabilization of silver nanoparticles to provide antibacterial properties. The CTL coating improved MG63 osteoblast adhesion and proliferation, while discouraging biofilm formation by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus.

Fabrication and characterization of 3D printed biocomposite scaffolds based on PCL and zirconia nanoparticles

Qifan Wang et al.

Summary: The study embedded nano-zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) powder in PCL material through a melt-mixing process and constructed a regular grid scaffold by 3D printing. The composite scaffold showed improved hydrophilicity and water absorption, facilitating cell adhesion, proliferation, and growth, as well as nutrient exchange. Furthermore, the addition of ZrO2 significantly enhanced the mechanical properties of the scaffold, leading to better biological activity and osteogenic differentiation compared to pure PCL materials.
