The effect of Bi doping on the thermal conductivity of ZnO and ZnO:Al thin films

Filipe C. Correia et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the Bi doping effect on ZnO and the microstructure changes induced by the co-doping of Bi and Al in ZnO thin films. The results show that the introduction of Bi and Al can significantly reduce the thermal conductivity of ZnO films, with Bi mainly contributing to grain boundary scattering. However, the coexistence of Bi and Al limits further reduction in thermal conductivity due to morphological changes in the film's microstructure. The findings are important for improving thermoelectric efficiency.

Estimation of Temperature-Dependent Band Parameters for Bi-Doped SnSe with High Thermoelectric Performance

Hyunjin Park et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that Bi-doped n-type SnSe materials exhibit exceptional thermoelectric performance. The band parameters of Sn1-xBixSe (x = 0.00, 0.02, 0.04, and 0.06) were analyzed using simple equations and the Single Parabolic Band model. Bi doping reduces the carrier-phonon coupling and increases the density-of-states effective mass. The n-type SnSe material is known to have two conduction bands converge near 600 K, and Bi doping alters the temperature at which this band convergence occurs. The highest zT value of the x = 0.04 sample at mid-temperatures (473-573 K) is attributed to the engineered band convergence through Bi doping.

High thermoelectric performance of high-mobility Ga-doped ZnO films via homogenous interface design

Zhifang Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of inserting ZnO homo-buffer layers with different thicknesses on GZO thin films, and found that a thin 10 nm ZnO interlayer effectively reduces lattice mismatch, improves carrier mobility, and enhances electrical conductivity. Energy filtering occurs at the GZO and ZnO interface, resulting in a higher DOS effective mass and maintaining a high Seebeck coefficient, ultimately leading to a high power factor value.
