Self-Healing Coating with a Controllable Release of Corrosion Inhibitors by Using Multifunctional Zinc Oxide Quantum Dots as Valves

Zhaowen Tian et al.

Summary: As an intelligent response system, self-healing anticorrosion materials containing nanocontainers have the potential to efficiently release corrosion inhibitors while avoiding leakage. This study successfully prepared self-healing anticorrosion coatings by sealing benzotriazole (BTA) inhibitors in nanocontainers, and showed the important role of zinc oxide quantum dots (ZnO-QDs) in preventing corrosion.

An Excellent Alternative to Industrial Activated Carbons for the Purification of Textile Water Elaborated from Waste Coffee Grounds

Dounia Azzouni et al.

Summary: Environmental pollution caused by industrial effluents has become a global issue. The textile industry, which uses a large amount of toxic and non-degradable dye, requires low-cost methods for removal. This study investigates the adsorption of methylene blue dye on powdered activated carbon derived from spent coffee grounds, demonstrating its potential as a cost-effective adsorbent for treating dyed water.

Novel thiophene derivatives as eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in 1 M HCl solution: Characterization, electrochemical and computational (DFT and MC simulations) methods

Y. Fernine et al.

Summary: Two novel organic aromatic thiophene derivatives, TET and OXM, were found to have significant anticorrosion properties on mild steel in an acidic environment. The effectiveness of these inhibitors was influenced by temperature, immersion time, and concentration. The adsorption mechanism of these compounds was evaluated using various techniques and theoretical calculations.

In Silico Approaches for Some Sulfa Drugs as Eco-Friendly Corrosion Inhibitors of Iron in Aqueous Medium

Soukaina Alaoui Mrani et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the adsorption behavior and inhibition capacity of sulfonamide-based molecules on mild steel surface. Quantum chemical calculations and molecular dynamics simulations are conducted to reveal the electronic structure and interaction between the inhibitors and the steel surface. The results show the importance of electron density in determining the adsorption and effectiveness of the inhibitors.

Banana leaves water extracts as inhibitor for X70 steel corrosion in HCl medium

Lei Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, experimental and theoretical methods were used to explore the corrosion inhibition properties of banana leaves water extract (BLWE) for X70 steel in hydrochloric acid solution. It was found that BLWE can effectively inhibit both the anodic and cathodic reactions of X70 steel, leading to a high corrosion inhibition efficiency of approximately 90%. Analysis shows that the compounds in BLWE, such as AHP, ATI, and DDA, demonstrate excellent anticorrosion characteristics by forming a dense barrier film on the steel surface.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the extract of S. surattense has a good inhibitory effect on the corrosion of low carbon steel, forming a protective film to reduce the degree of metal degradation. This protective coat was confirmed by SEM and AFM, while the molecular adhesion of the inhibitor was verified by UV-Vis spectroscopy.

New α-Hydrazinophosphonic acid: Synthesis, characterization, DFT study and in silico prediction of its potential inhibition of SARS-CoV-2 main protease

Khalissa Benbouguerra et al.

Summary: A new a-Hydrazinophosphonic acid (HDZPA) was synthesized and its molecular structure determined using spectroscopic methods. Density Functional Theory (DFT) was used to determine electronic properties, vibrational modes, and active sites, with quantum chemical parameters calculated to discuss reactivity. In silico docking was utilized to predict the inhibition activity of HDZPA against SARS-CoV-2 main protease (M-pro) and RNA dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp).
