Thermal-fluid-structure coupling analysis of void defect in friction stir welding

Lei Shi et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel integrated thermal-fluid-structure coupling model of the friction stir welding process was proposed to study the non-uniform distribution model of the tool-workpiece contact pressure and the void defect formation mechanism. The tool service life was also predicted. This research provides important theoretical guidance for optimizing welding parameters.

Key parameters controlling surface quality and dimensional accuracy: a critical review of FFF process

John Kechagias et al.

Summary: Fused filament fabrication (FFF) is an additive manufacturing process that constructs physical items layer-by-layer using fused melt material. This paper presents an overview of the FFF process, categorizes process parameters according to their effects on surface quality and dimensional accuracy, and discusses their impact on FFF printed parts. The classification of parameters into signal, control, and noise classes facilitates the selection of suitable printers and optimization of printed parts.

Low cycle fatigue properties of friction stir welded dissimilar 2024-to-7075 aluminum alloy joints

Pengliang Niu et al.

Summary: Low cycle fatigue tests were conducted on friction stir welded dissimilar aluminum alloy joints with different strain amplitudes, revealing that the positioning of base materials during FSW affected the fatigue resistance of joints. When 7075 aluminum alloy was placed on the advancing side, longer fatigue life was achieved. Fracture of fatigued specimens always occurred at the softer heat-affected zone on the 2024 side, with crack initiation from the specimen surface and crack propagation characterized by typical fatigue striations.
