Mohamad Al Nashar et al.

Summary: Hierarchical lattices, composed of self-similar or dissimilar structures, offer superior and tunable properties compared to conventional lattices, enabling manipulation and optimization of material properties. Investigating the energy absorption capabilities of 3D hierarchical lattices through finite element analysis and experimental fabrication using FDM 3D printing reveals significant enhancement in energy absorption performance by introducing hierarchy in the structure. The study aims at expanding design possibilities for energy absorption structures by exploring the impact of hierarchy on lattice structures and relative density effects.
