Gradually weaning goat kids may improve weight gains while reducing weaning stress and increasing creep feed intakes

A preliminary investigation of the feeding behaviour of dairy goat kids reared away from their dams on a computerised ad libitum milk feeding system

Summary: Most commercial dairy goat farmers use ad libitum milk feeding set-ups to rear goat kids. However, detailed information on how kids use these systems is lacking. This study aimed to describe and characterize the feeding behavior of dairy breed goat kids using a computerized milk feeder. The results showed that milk consumption and milk intake per meal increased with age, and solid feed and water intakes were positively correlated with age. The study also found that most milk intake occurred during meals with more than two kids.

Does coping style affect behavioral responses and growth performance of lambs weaned at different ages?

Reactive lambs generally had higher weight and weight gain compared to proactive lambs.
