Tuberculosis incidence in country of origin is a key determinant of the risk of active tuberculosis in people living with HIV: Data from a 30-year observational cohort study

Helena A. White et al.

Summary: People living with HIV are at high risk of developing active tuberculosis, but the risk in the era of antiretroviral treatment remains unclear. This study in Leicester, UK, identified the risk factors associated with incident TB disease in PLWH, with a focus on TB incidence in the individual's country of birth. The findings suggest that further work is needed to determine specific groups of PLWH for targeted LTBI screening and to assess the cost-effectiveness of widespread implementation.

Temporal and spatial analysis of COVID-19 transmission in China and its influencing factors

Qian Wang et al.

Summary: This study explored the temporal and spatial characteristics of COVID-19 transmission in China from January to October 2020. Factors such as environmental temperature, air pollution, migration, and government response intensity were found to have varying impacts on the transmission of the virus. Findings showed that environmental temperature inhibits the transmission, while air pollution and migration facilitate it, and stronger government intervention results in fewer cases.

Detecting Malaria Hotspots in Haiti, a Low-Transmission Setting

Amber M. Dismer et al.

Summary: Haiti committed to malaria elimination in 2006 when prevalence was low, confirmed by a survey in 2011. Despite low prevalence, a substantial number of malaria cases were reported in 2014 and 2015. The National Malaria Control Program piloted an enhanced geographic information surveillance system to detect transmission hotspots for targeted interventions.

The positive externalities of migrant-based TB control strategy in a Chinese urban population with internal migration: a transmission-dynamic modeling study

Chongguang Yang et al.

Summary: The study estimated the contributions of migration, latent reactivation, and local transmission to TB cases in Shanghai's Songjiang District. It found that additional interventions targeting migrants, such as active screening and preventive treatment, could further reduce TB incidence by 20% by 2035.

Summary: The study reveals the critical situation of tuberculosis among migrants in Brazil, with most clusters showing an upward trend in recent years and a strong association with social vulnerability.
