Major trauma care in Hong Kong and Germany: a trauma registry data benchmark study

Summary: Trauma mortality rates were higher in Hong Kong compared to Germany, with a statistically significantly higher standardized mortality ratio (SMR) after RISC II adjustment in Hong Kong. However, there were multiple differences between trauma systems and patient characteristics in the two settings.

Evaluation of the Berlin polytrauma definition: A Dutch nationwide observational study

Summary: This study confirms that the BPD accurately identifies high-risk patients and the addition of physiological risk factors to anatomical injury scores enhances the identification of severely injured patients at high risk of mortality. Compared to other multiple injury definitions, the BPD improves the accuracy in capturing patients with high resource utilization and mortality rates.

Characteristics of fall-related head injury versus non-head injury in the older adults

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to changes in people's behavior in seeking medical assistance, with a slight decrease in total EMS incidents in Israel during the crisis. There was an increase in incidents related to infectious disease, cardiac arrest, psychiatric issues, and childbirth, while incidents related to neurology and trauma decreased. The proportion of patients refusing hospital transport also rose during the pandemic, highlighting the need for EMS to adapt to changes in patient behavior and provide appropriate assistance.
