Socioeconomic status impacts cognitive and socioemotional processes in healthy ageing

Joaquin Migeot et al.

Summary: This study reveals that socioeconomic status has a negative impact on cognitive and socioemotional abilities in older adults, especially in low-income countries. Older adults with low SES showed poorer performance in cognition, executive functions, and social cognition, and these impacts are mediated by cognitive and executive impairment.

Influence of childhood socioeconomic position and ability on mid-life cognitive function: evidence from three British birth cohorts

Eoin McElroy et al.

Summary: Childhood socioeconomic position is associated with mid-life cognitive function through childhood cognitive ability, educational attainment, and mid-life occupation in three ongoing British birth cohorts. The direct pathway between childhood cognition and adult cognitive function appears to be weaker in younger generations.

Alcohol Consumption and Sexual Risk Behavior in an Aging Population in Rural South Africa

Rebecca A. de Vlieg et al.

Summary: The study found that more frequent alcohol consumption in older adults in South Africa is associated with having a higher number of sexual partners, engaging in sex for money, and having sex without a condom. Behavioral interventions targeting alcohol intake should be considered to reduce the risk of STI and HIV transmission in this population.
