Investigating the resilience of refugee camps to COVID-19: A case of Rohingya settlements in Bangladesh

Salma Akter et al.

Summary: The Rohingya camps in Bangladesh have accommodated 650,000 refugees who fled from Myanmar since 2017. Despite efforts by the government and international aid agencies to implement WHO's IPC guidelines, the Rohingya often disregard these guidelines due to past trauma and lack of trust in healthcare providers. Insufficient infrastructure and poor hygiene conditions further increase their vulnerability to COVID-19 in refugee camps such as Kutupalong in Cox's Bazar. The study calls for a deeper understanding of their socio-psychological values and cultural narratives to effectively build community resilience to the pandemic.
