Barriers and facilitators to the adoption of physical activity policies in elementary schools from the perspective of principals: An application of the consolidated framework for implementation research-A cross-sectional study

Janine Wendt et al.

Summary: This study used the CFIR framework to investigate the barriers and facilitators to the adoption of physical activity policies in elementary schools in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, from the perspective of school principals. The results showed that general willingness among teaching staff, available resources, access to knowledge and information, and stakeholder engagement were positively associated with policy adoption. This study provides valuable insights into potential factors influencing the adoption of physical activity policies at the organizational level of schools.

Perceptions of eating practices and physical activity among Malaysian adolescents in secondary schools: a qualitative study with multi-stakeholders

Shooka Mohammadi et al.

Summary: Qualitative research among stakeholders in Malaysian secondary schools revealed that adolescents' misperceptions, limited healthy options, unhealthy food preferences, and affordability are key challenges to healthy eating at school. Additionally, low-quality physical education classes, limited student participation, and teachers' commitment hinder adolescents' active engagement in physical activity at school.

Investigation of the associations between physical activity, self-regulation and educational outcomes in childhood

Fotini Vasilopoulos et al.

Summary: The study found a positive relationship between physical activity and emotional regulation, and a negligible relationship with behavioral regulation in children born in 2000-2001 in the UK. Physical activity was predictive of academic achievement through emotional regulation in 7-year-olds and behavioral regulation in 11-year-olds, with socioeconomic status moderating this relationship. This suggests early interventions focusing on attention rather than behavior may have a greater impact on academic attainment.

Effects of physical education interventions on cognition and academic performance outcomes in children and adolescents: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Antonio Garcia-Hermoso et al.

Summary: Improving the quality of physical education classes can enhance cognition and academic performance in children and adolescents, while increasing the quantity of physical education time does not show a significant impact on academic performance. It is suggested that focusing on the quality of physical education interventions may be more beneficial for students' cognitive and academic outcomes.
