Secondary metabolites from Gentiana cruciata L. and their anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities

Rima Konya et al.

Summary: In this study, a previously unreported secoiridoid glycoside, cruciatoside, was isolated from Gentiana cruciata L., along with ten known compounds. Compounds 9, 4, and 7 showed moderate anti-inflammatory activity, while compounds 1, 2, 4, and 7 exhibited strong reduction in IL-6 levels. In addition, compound 4 showed in vitro analgesic activity.

A new depside and a new secoiridoid from the aerial parts ofGentiana olivierifrom flora of Turkey

Hasan Kirmizibekmez et al.

Summary: A new depside and a new secoiridoid, along with four known compounds, were isolated from Gentiana olivieri. This is the first report on the occurrence of a depside structure in the genus Gentiana. Moreover, a rare type of non-glycosidic secoiridoid lacking an oxygenated group at C-1 is also being reported for the first time from this genus.

Summary: The disappearing traditional knowledge about plants and their uses due to socio-economic and land use changes is also happening in bio-cultural refugia like mountain areas. New data collected on Traditional Ethnobotanical Knowledge (TEK) of Italian alpine regions show a rich and alive traditional knowledge concerning plants uses in the Gran Paradiso National Park. The results provide opportunities for scientific research, development of health communities, and sustainable land management.

Biological Activities and Chemical Profile of Gentiana asclepiadea and Inula helenium Ethanolic Extracts

Victoria Buza et al.

Summary: This study investigated the antioxidant, antimicrobial, and cytotoxic potential of ethanolic extracts from Gentiana asclepiadea L. and Inula helenium L. roots. The extracts contained important constituents such as secoiridoid glycoside and phenolic acids, as well as promising antioxidant properties. They also exhibited antimicrobial activity against several pathogens, with significant bactericidal activity. The extracts did not show cytotoxicity on rat intestinal epithelial cells.

IL1β/TNFα/COX-2/VEGF axis responsible for effective healing potential of C-glucoside xanthone (mangiferin) based ointment in immunocompromised rats

Virendra Pratap Yadav et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of mangiferin in promoting wound healing in an immunocompromised rat model. The results showed that mangiferin treatment significantly reduced wound area and increased wound contraction in immunocompromised rats. It also increased levels of hydroxyproline, DNA, and total protein in the skin tissues of treated rats. Additionally, mangiferin exhibited antioxidative effects and modulated the expression of IL18, TNF alpha, and COX-2. Histopathological studies further revealed improved wound healing and tissue restoration in the mangiferin-treated group. Overall, mangiferin was found to enhance wound closure, collagen deposition, and granulation matrix formation.

Effects of Aloe vera Flower Extract and Its Active Constituent Isoorientin on Skin Moisturization via Regulating Involucrin Expression: In Vitro and Molecular Docking Studies

Sultana Razia et al.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular mechanism targeting skin moisturization effects of the Aloe vera flower and its active constituent, Isoorientin (IO), showing that they can promote epidermal involucrin expression, regulate filaggrin and hyaluronan synthesis, and protect skin against UVB-induced damage. The findings suggest the potential of Aloe vera flower and IO as prominent ingredients for enhancing skin barrier function and improving skin-related pathologies.
