Revealing the effect of silica fume on the flexural behavior of ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete by acoustic emission technique

Qiaomu Zheng et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of silica fume (SF) on the flexural behaviors of ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC). The results show that the addition of SF increases both the toughness and brittleness properties at different stages. Through the analysis of microstructural changes during flexural deformation using acoustic emission technique, it is found that SF addition leads to a toughening effect on the fiber-matrix interface but increases the brittleness of the cement matrix. The flexural behaviors of UHPFRC are mainly influenced by the brittleness effect at lower SF dosage rates, while the toughening effect becomes dominant at higher SF dosage rates.

Acoustic emission characteristics and crack resistance of basalt fiber reinforced concrete under tensile load

Liyun Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that an appropriate amount of basalt fiber can increase the tensile strength of concrete, reduce the strength of acoustic emission parameters and cumulative events, and improve crack patterns. Additionally, the suitable amount of basalt fiber can also decrease horizontal strain and its standard deviation, further enhancing the crack resistance of concrete.

Mechanical properties and damage analysis of rubber cement mortar mixed with ceramic waste aggregate based on acoustic emission monitoring technology

Jie Xu et al.

Summary: Adding ceramic waste aggregate (CWA) to rubber cement mortar (RCM) can significantly improve the mechanical properties of composite mortar. However, the strength first increases at low content and then decreases at high content due to the high water absorption of the aggregate.

Crack monitoring and damage assessment of BFRP-jacketed concrete cylinders under compression load based on acoustic emission techniques

Gao Ma et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that AE monitoring effectively captured the characteristics of the cracking process of FRP-jacketed concrete, and revealed that the cracking process of BFRP-jacketed concrete differed from that of unjacketed concrete, including a prolonged AE stable developing stage, significantly higher crack intensity analysis parameters, and delayed occurrence of shear cracks.

Mechanical properties and acoustic emission data analyses of crumb rubber concrete under biaxial compression stress states

Jie Xu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the mechanical properties and acoustic emission parameters of crumb rubber concrete (CRC) with different rubber contents under biaxial compression stress states. The modified Kupfer failure criterions were proposed to describe the strength growth laws of CRC, and the initiation and growth of concrete cracks were monitored based on AE technology. The study provides experimental and theoretical foundations for the strength analyses and failure characteristics of CRC structures under complex stress states.
