Numerical investigation of the dynamic increase factor of ultra-high performance concrete based on SHPB technology

Liang Ren et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigates the dynamic increase factor (DIF) of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) under compressive impact using a split-Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB). The DIF values of UHPC are tested at different sizes of SHPB devices, and the effectiveness of various calculation formulas is evaluated. An analysis model is established and the DIF-strain rate curves of UHPC are improved. The results show that the proposed formulas can match the numerical results and avoid overestimating the DIF of UHPC to a certain extent.

Study on dynamic compressive mechanical properties of freeze-thaw concrete

Chenglong Huang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the dynamic compressive mechanical properties of C40 concrete after freeze-thaw cycles under various loading speeds using the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) equipment. The results show that the dynamic compressive strength of concrete changes with the freeze-thaw times and loading velocity. The paper also discusses the failure patterns of specimens and introduces influence coefficients to quantify the effects of freeze-thaw damage and hydration on the dynamic compressive strength. A constitutive model of freeze-thaw concrete is established using the theory of statistical damage and Weibull distribution.

Dynamic stress-strain relationship of steel fiber-reinforced rubber self-compacting concrete

Jinping Zhuang et al.

Summary: In this study, the impact performance of steel fiber-reinforced rubber self-compacting concrete (SRSCC) was investigated through experiments under different strain rates and various rubber and steel fiber contents. The experimental results showed that the dynamic compressive strength, toughness index, and stress impact factor of the concrete increased significantly with the increase of strain rate. The increase of rubber content decreased the dynamic compressive strength but increased the toughness index. The steel fiber content had a strengthening effect on the dynamic compressive strength and toughness index.

Multi-scale modeling of the concrete SHPB test based on DEM-FDM coupling method

Xiang Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an efficient multi-scale mechanical calculation method based on the coupling of discrete element method (DEM) and finite difference method (FDM) for analyzing the dynamic mechanical properties and damage evolution of concrete under impact loading. By establishing a SHPB test system, the macroscopic and microscopic dynamic mechanical behavior of concrete is simulated using the combination of DEM and FDM methods. The results show that this method can effectively simulate the damage evolution of the concrete meso-structure.

Dynamic compressive behavior of concrete confined with unidirectional natural flax FRP based on SHPB tests

Yu-lei Bai et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the dynamic compressive behaviors of concrete confined with unidirectional natural flax fiber reinforced polymers (FFRPs) under axial impact load. The results showed that the FFRP jacket confinement can improve the impact resistance of concrete, with sensitivity to strain rate and increased confinement stiffness leading to enhanced mechanical properties.

Effect of rubber particles on impact resistance of concrete at a temperature of-20 celcius

Summary: The study demonstrated that rubberised concrete has better impact resistance at low temperatures, attributing to the positive effects of rubber particles on concrete toughness. Through various tests and simulations, the research elucidated the mechanism by which rubber particles enhance concrete impact resistance at low temperatures.
