Mechanical Properties and Durability of Geopolymer Recycled Aggregate Concrete: A Review

Peng Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper summarizes the research on Geopolymer recycled aggregate concrete (GPRAC), including its mechanical properties, durability, and microscopic aspects. It is found that GPRAC can be improved by factors such as curing temperature, precursor materials, fibers, nanoparticles, and mix ratios. Using multiple precursor materials tends to show better performance. Furthermore, using modified recycled aggregates can reduce porosity and water absorption. The results show that GPRAC meets engineering requirements and has advantages over traditional concrete in terms of reducing carbon emissions and environmental pollution.

3-D base force element method on meso-damage analysis for recycled concrete

Liping Ying et al.

Summary: The 3-D base force element method is used to analyze the damage mechanism of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) and investigate the influence of recycled aggregate replacement percentage on strength and elastic modulus. The results show that the numerical simulation can reflect the nonlinearity deformation, stress redistribution, and crack propagation process of RAC.

Mechanical properties and meso-microscopic mechanism of basalt fiber-reinforced recycled aggregate concrete

Yuanxun Zheng et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the mechanical properties of basalt fiber-reinforced recycled aggregate concrete (BFRAC) at macro-micro-meso levels. The effects of different contents and lengths of basalt fiber (BF) on the mechanical properties of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) are analyzed. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) are used to analyze the distribution of BF, bond between BF and matrix, failure form of BF, and element composition of the fiber interface transition zone. Numerical simulations of compression and splitting tensile tests are conducted, and the stress-strain curve and failure morphology of RAC under static loading are studied. The research results can be used as reference for the establishment of the RAC mechanical model and practical engineering application in the future.

Mechanical properties and microstructure of nano-SiO2 and basalt-fiber-reinforced recycled aggregate concrete

Yuanxun Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, nano-SiO2 and basalt fiber were used to improve the quality of recycled aggregate concrete. The effects of different contents and lengths of basalt fiber on the mechanical properties of the concrete were analyzed, as well as the micro-composite effect between nano-SiO2 and basalt fiber. The study found that the optimum modified concentration of nano-SiO2 was 2%, and the optimum length and content of basalt fiber were 12 mm and 0.2%, respectively. The addition of basalt fiber significantly increased the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and flexural strength of the concrete.

Mechanical properties and microstructure of nano-strengthened recycled aggregate concrete

Yuanxun Zheng et al.

Summary: This study focuses on improving the quality of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) and the mechanical properties of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC). Mechanical and physical strengthening methods were used to enhance the quality of RCA, followed by soaking in nano-silica solutions and vibration-mixing process to improve the RAC. The results showed that the proposed strengthening method significantly improved the quality, water-absorption rate, crushing value, and overall mechanical properties of RAC.

Influence of the bleeding characteristic on density and rheology in cement slurry

Xiaochen Wang et al.

Summary: The bleeding characteristic of Portland cement influences its density and rheological behavior, with higher water-cement ratios leading to faster density growth speed and degree during bleeding. The apparent viscosity of the slurry shows two stages of change with bleeding time, indicating a transition from weak to stronger interactions within the cement slurry particles. The Herschel-Bulkley model performs better in describing the rheological characteristics of slurry bleeding compared to other empirical models.
