Effects of chemical pretreatments on material solubilization of Areca catechu L. husk: Digestion, biodegradability, and kinetic studies for biogas yield

Adhirashree Vannarath et al.

Summary: This study aimed to understand the pretreatment-aided anaerobic digestion of lignocellulosic residues and to assess the substrate solubilization capacity of pretreatment processes. The results showed that chemical pretreatment significantly increased biogas production and methane content. The study also recommended considering the biochemical composition of substrates for anaerobic digestion.

Metagenomic insights into the impacts of phytochemicals on bacterial and archaeal community structure and biogas production patterns during anaerobic digestion of avocado oil processing waste feedstocks

Grace N. Ijoma et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of phytochemicals on the microbial community structure and methane production efficiency of different avocado oil processing wastes using high-throughput metagenomic sequencing and physicochemical analyses. The results showed that phytochemicals had a significant negative impact on methane production, and different wastes exhibited different methane production patterns. Pseudomonas, Romboutsia, Paeniclostridium, and Methanocorpusculum, Methanosaeta, Methanoregula, and Methanosarcina were the dominant bacteria and archaea. In conclusion, this is the first report on the potential negative impact of phytochemicals on the microbial community structure and biomethane production from avocado processing wastes.

Summary: The study determined the biomethane potentials of avocado oil processing by-products using six different theoretical models, comparing the results with empirical values. Results suggest that statistically derived theoretical BMP prediction models offer the best approach for evaluating the biomethane production potential of these substrates.
