Industrial production of recycled cement: energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission estimation

Vitor Sousa et al.

Summary: This study estimates the energy consumption and carbon emissions associated with a novel process for producing cement by recycling used concrete and mortars. Comparisons with traditional Portland cement production show higher energy consumption but lower carbon dioxide emissions. Optimizing the production process could potentially lead to greater benefits.

Durability performance of thermoactivated recycled cement concrete

Ana Carrico et al.

Summary: Concrete produced with thermoactivated recycled cement obtained from waste materials showed improved durability properties compared to non-treated waste materials. Even concretes with up to 100% recycled cement exhibited comparable durability to reference concretes.

Novel separation process for obtaining recycled cement and high-quality recycled sand from waste hardened concrete

Ana Carrico et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new method to obtain the cementitious fraction and cleaner fine aggregate from concrete through mechanical comminution and high-intensity magnetic separation. The results show that the proposed method effectively separates the main concrete constituents, especially when the waste material is reduced to the size range of 150-500 μm.
