ColpoClassifier: A Hybrid Framework for Classification of the Cervigrams

Madhura Kalbhor et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a hybrid framework called ColpoClassifier for the classification of cervigrams, which includes feature extraction and classification. Gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM), Gray-level run length matrix (GLRLM), and histogram of gradients (HOG) are used for feature extraction. Different machine learning classifiers are used for classification based on individual feature vectors and feature fusion vectors. The experimental results on two different datasets show that the hybrid feature fusion vectors achieve the best performance on aceto-whitening images.

DeepCyto: a hybrid framework for cervical cancer classification by using deep feature fusion of cytology images

Swati Shinde et al.

Summary: Cervical cancer, the second most common cancer in women, mainly affects the cervix portion of the vagina. A deep learning method named DeepCyto is proposed for the classification of pap smear cytology images. Experimental results demonstrate that DeepCyto performs well in accurate feature extraction and classification of pap smear cytology images.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
