Correlation between the elastic modulus of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and quantitative ultrashort echo time (UTE) magnetic resonance imaging

Saeed Jerban et al.

Summary: The study investigated the correlations between the mechanical and microstructural properties of human ACL specimens and quantitative three-dimensional UTE Cones MRI measures. The results showed significant moderate correlations between UTE-MRI biomarkers and the elastic modulus of ACL, but nonsignificant correlations with histomorphometry measures.

On the fat saturation effect in quantitative ultrashort TE MR imaging

Yanjun Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of fat saturation on quantitative UTE imaging on a 3T scanner. The results showed that fat was well-suppressed using all three UTE sequences when FatSat was deployed. Although there were statistical differences in some measurements between FatSat and non-FatSat scans, there was good correlation and agreement between the biomarkers measured with and without FatSat.

Spin Lattice (T1) and Magnetization Transfer Saturation (MTsat) Imaging to Monitor Age-Related Differences in Skeletal Muscle Tissue

John Cameron White et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of different fat suppression methods and magnetization transfer saturation on calf muscle and identified regional and age-related differences. The results showed that T1 increased and MTsat decreased with age, indicating changes in inflammatory processes and muscle fiber macromolecules. T1 and MTsat maps have the potential to detect regional and age-related compositional differences in calf muscle.

Magnetization Transfer Ratio in Lower Limbs of Late Onset Pompe Patients Correlates With Intramuscular Fat Fraction and Muscle Function Tests

Claudia Nunez-Peralta et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate muscle damage in Pompe disease patients using MT imaging and correlate it with muscle function test results. The findings indicated a significant decrease in MTR in Pompe patients compared to healthy controls, with MTR showing a negative correlation with muscle function test results.

Quantitative Muscle MRI in Patients with Neuromuscular Diseases-Association of Muscle Proton Density Fat Fraction with Semi-Quantitative Grading of Fatty Infiltration and Muscle Strength at the Thigh Region

Sarah Schlaeger et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the diagnostic value of PDFF in correlation to Mercuri grading and clinically determined muscle strength in patients with DM2, LGMD2A, and Pompe disease. The results showed a strong correlation between Mercuri grading and PDFF values for almost all muscles, and significant correlations between PDFF values and muscle strength for muscle groups responsible for knee flexion. This suggests that PDFF could be further considered as an MRI-based biomarker in the assessment of fatty infiltration of muscle tissue in NMD, with advantages such as greater dynamic range, amplified objectivity, and potential direct correlation to muscle function.
