Commonalities and Disparities between Endometriosis and Chronic Endometritis: Therapeutic Potential of Novel Antibiotic Treatment Strategy against Ectopic Endometrium

Kotaro Kitaya et al.

Summary: Chronic endometritis (CE) is an inflammatory disorder of the uterine lining characterized by abnormal infiltration of CD138(+) plasmacytes. It is associated with infertility and obstetric/neonatal complications and is believed to be caused by intrauterine infection and local dysbiosis. Antibiotic treatment is effective in eliminating the plasmacytes. Endometriosis is a common reproductive tract disease characterized by ectopic endometrium that can cause chronic pelvic symptoms, infertility, and ovarian cancers. Recent studies have found common characteristics between endometriosis and CE, specifically in immunological, inflammatory, and infectious aspects. This review aims to better understand the immunological and microbial backgrounds of endometriosis and CE and explore the therapeutic potential of novel antibiotic treatment against endometriosis.

Administration of growth hormone improves endometrial function in women undergoing in vitro fertilization: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Yujie Shang et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis evaluated the effects of growth hormone (GH) administration on endometrial function and reproductive outcomes in IVF cycles. The results showed that GH treatment significantly increased endometrial thickness and improved live birth rate and clinical pregnancy rate. Optimal treatment should be offered to the target population based on individual conditions and needs. However, caution should be exercised when interpreting the results due to limited sample sizes and methodological issues.

The association between chronic deciduitis and preeclampsia

Aina Morimune et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between chronic deciduitis (CD) and preeclampsia, and found a significant correlation between CD and the incidence of preeclampsia. Patients with CD had earlier gestational age, lower birth weight, and higher rate of low birth weight. Therefore, CD may be a factor associated with poor perinatal outcomes.

Transient and Prolonged Activation of Wnt Signaling Contribute Oppositely to the Pathogenesis of Asherman's Syndrome

Xiang Xue et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between the Wnt signaling pathway and the progression of Asherman's Syndrome (AS). The study finds that the expression of non-phosphorylated beta-catenin, Wnt5a, and Wnt7a is significantly higher in the endometria with adhesion. Both Wnt5a and Wnt7a promote stem cell proliferation, but only Wnt7a preserves stem cell population by stimulating self-renewal. In a rat model, transient activation of the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway promotes angiogenesis and increases the number of glands. The study suggests that transient Wnt/beta-catenin activation may aid tissue regeneration, while prolonged activation may contribute to fibrosis formation.

Current Status of Artificial Intelligence-Based Computer-Assisted Diagnosis Systems for Gastric Cancer in Endoscopy

Kentaro Ochiai et al.

Summary: Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being used in various fields, including medicine, particularly in image recognition. In the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy, AI-based computer-assisted detection/diagnosis (CAD) systems have been developed for colorectal polyp detection and diagnosis. However, the implementation of these systems in real-world clinical settings is still limited. The accurate detection and diagnosis of gastric cancer (GC) is a challenge, especially in early stages. The development of CAD systems for GC is challenging due to the need for high-quality GC images.

The Future Is Coming: Artificial Intelligence in the Treatment of Infertility Could Improve Assisted Reproduction Outcomes-The Value of Regulatory Frameworks

Sanja Medenica et al.

Summary: Infertility is a global health problem that affects men and women of reproductive age. Artificial intelligence (AI) has been increasingly used in infertility diagnosis and assisted reproduction technologies (ART) to improve treatment outcomes. AI applications include ultrasound monitoring, embryo selection, oocyte morphology assessment, and male infertility evaluation. Additionally, AI can help classify and diagnose idiopathic infertility cases. This review summarizes current AI applications and explores the legal, regulatory, and ethical standards for AI in healthcare.

Investigation of the Relationship between Chronic Endometritis Manifestations under Hysteroscope and CD138 Expression

Shuang Wang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed clinical cases of patients with chronic endometritis (CE) and found that the positiveness of CD138 and the efficacy of antibiotic treatment varied among different manifestations of CE under hysteroscopy. Patients with endometrial micropolyps and endometrial stroma edema and hyperplasia had a high rate of CD138 positivity and better response to antibiotic treatment. However, patients with diffuse endometrial hyperemia had a low rate of CD138 positivity and poor response to antibiotics.

An Endometrial Thickness < 8 mm Was Associated With a Significantly Increased Risk of EP After Freeze-Thaw Transfer: An Analysis of 5,960 Pregnancy Cycles

Ying Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the endometrial characteristics most likely to induce ectopic pregnancy in frozen-thawed embryo transfers. The risk of ectopic pregnancy significantly increases when the endometrial thickness is less than 8 mm. Thin endometrial thickness may be related to abnormal endometrial peristaltic waves or abnormal endometrial receptivity. Adequate attention should be paid to patients with thin endometrial thickness to prevent ectopic pregnancy or achieve early diagnosis.

Syndecan-1 (CD138), Carcinomas and EMT

John R. Couchman

Summary: Cell surface proteoglycans, such as syndecans, play crucial roles in regulating cell behavior, including interactions with extracellular matrix components and mediating proliferation, adhesion, and migration. In tumors, changes in the levels and distribution of syndecan-1 can have implications for prognosis, with loss of membrane staining and abnormal cytoplasmic or nuclear staining often indicating poor outcomes. Targeting syndecan-1 with antibody-toxin conjugates may hold promise for clinical applications in both myeloma and some carcinomas.
