An Efficient Detection and Classification of Acute Leukemia Using Transfer Learning and Orthogonal Softmax Layer-Based Model

Pradeep Kumar Das et al.

Summary: Microscopic analysis of blood cells is crucial for the early diagnosis of hematological disorders like blood cancer. This paper presents a new and effective model for classifying and detecting Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) or Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) using small medical datasets. The model proposes a novel Orthogonal SoftMax Layer (OSL)-based classification integrated with ResNet18 for improved performance. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of this model over other comparing models.

Diagnosis prediction of tumours of unknown origin using ImmunoGenius, a machine learning-based expert system for immunohistochemistry profile interpretation

Yosep Chong et al.

Summary: Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is crucial in pathological diagnosis, but interpretation in complex cases poses challenges. ImmunoGenius, a machine-learning expert system, was developed to support tumor diagnosis of unknown origin by providing probable diagnoses. Results show high precision hit rates, but improvements are needed in disease-specific IHC markers and overlapping IHC profiles.

Deep learning-based histopathological segmentation for whole slide images of colorectal cancer in a compressed domain

Hyeongsub Kim et al.

Summary: Automatic pattern recognition using deep learning techniques is important, and a novel image segmentation approach in the compressed domain based on PCA and DWT is proposed in this study. The method was tested on 351 colorectal biopsy specimens and showed improved performance in high-resolution images with larger regions of interest compared to traditional methods.
