Association Between Low-Level Blood Cadmium Exposure and Hyperuricemia in the American General Population: a Cross-sectional Study

Summary: This study investigated the association between serum cadmium and uric acid levels, as well as the risk of hyperuricemia in American adults. The results showed a non-linear relationship between cadmium and hyperuricemia in men, and a positive linear correlation in women. No significant association between uric acid and cadmium was found in either gender.

Associations of metal exposure with hyperuricemia and gout in general adults

Summary: There is scarce epidemiological evidence on the associations between metal exposure and gout-related outcomes. This study investigated the associations of metal exposure with serum uric acid, hyperuricemia, and gout in general adults. The results indicated that higher levels of mercury, lead, and selenium were positively correlated with serum uric acid and hyperuricemia. Lead had the greatest effect on gout.

Summary: The prevalence of HUA has rapidly increased in Chinese adults, especially in males, over the past 10 years. In 2019, the young male group (20-29 years old) replaced the middle-aged male group (40-49 years old) in 2009 as the leading age group for male HUA. BMI was positively correlated with HUA and may be a potential risk factor for predicting HUA.

Different oxidation states of chromium exist in the environment and are released from both natural and human activities. Among these, hexavalent chromium is the most toxic due to its solubility and mobility. Chronic exposure and accumulation of chromium can lead to various health issues and have severe consequences for water and soil environments.

Pollution Characteristics and Human Health Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Street Dust from a Typical Industrial Zone in Wuhan City, Central China

Summary: This study assessed the pollution levels and human health risks of heavy metals in street dust from an industrial district in Wuhan, China. Results showed that Zn, Cu, and Cd concentrations were higher than soil background values, with heavy metal enrichment related to urban transportation and industrial production. Risk assessment indicated medium to high potential ecological risk, with Cu, Cr, Zn, Fe, and Mn mainly coming from industrial processes and Ni and Cd from traffic exhaust. Non-carcinogenic risk indexes ranked Cr > Cu > Ni > Cd > Zn, with higher risks to children and hand-to-mouth intake being the riskiest exposure pathway.

Association between hyperuricemia and metabolic syndrome: A cross-sectional study in Tibetan adults on the Tibetan plateau
