Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Liver Biopsy Using Newer 19-G Fine Needle Biopsy Needles Compared to Percutaneous and Transjugular Liver Biopsy: A Tertiary Center Experience

Harsh K. Patel et al.

Summary: This study compared the specimen quality, complication rates, and recovery times of EUS-LB, PC-LB, and TJ-LB in liver biopsy. The results showed that compared to PC-LB and TJ-LB, EUS-LB had better or similar specimen quality, fewer needle passes, and shorter postprocedural recovery time. Therefore, EUS-LB should be the preferred technique for liver biopsy when patients also require upper endoscopy.

Improved detection of liver metastasis using Kupffer-phase imaging in contrast-enhanced harmonic EUS in patients with pancreatic cancer (with video)

Kosuke Minaga et al.

Summary: CH-EUS-based Kupffer-phase imaging improves the detection rate of left liver lobe metastasis from pancreatic cancer and plays a crucial role in clinical decision-making. Its sensitivity for detecting small liver metastasis is significantly higher than CE-CT or FB-EUS.

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided parenchymal liver biopsy: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Bulent Baran et al.

Summary: EUS-guided parenchymal liver biopsy is a promising method for diagnosing liver diseases, with FNB needles combined with a slow-pull technique showing better results in terms of obtaining quality specimens. Additional randomized control trials are needed to further support this conclusion.

Quality metrics in the performance of EUS: a population-based observational cohort of the United States

Robert J. Huang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed EUS practice in 166 facilities in three large American states, finding that facility volume does not predict risk for adverse events but high facility volume is associated with decreased rates of technical failure (as assessed by NRB). Rural facility location and free-standing status were also associated with NRB.

Single-pass 1-needle actuation versus single-pass 3-needle actuation technique for EUS-guided liver biopsy sampling: a randomized prospective trial (with video)

Rafael A. Ching-Companioni et al.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of single-pass single-actuation and single-pass triple-actuation techniques in EUS-LB. The results showed that using the single-pass triple-actuation technique yielded more complete portal triads and longer specimen lengths compared to the single-pass single-actuation technique, with equivalent safety profiles.

Daryl Ramai et al.

Summary: This study compared wet-suction and dry-suction techniques for EUS-FNA in sampling solid lesions, finding that wet-suction offered higher specimen quality in terms of sample adequacy. Blood contamination rates were similar between wet-suction and dry-suction cohorts, with no significant difference in histological accuracy. Adverse events were minimal and did not impact patient outcomes in either group.
