Synthesis of asymmetric indolonaphthyridines with enhanced excited state charge-transfer character

Michael Purdy et al.

Summary: In this study, a new class of asymmetric indolonaphthyridines (IND) derived using a novel high yielding methodology was presented. The absorption properties and excited state charge-transfer character of these novel asymmetric INDs were compared with symmetric INDs. The results showed that the asymmetry of INDs increased the change in dipole moment and excited state charge-transfer character, which was attributed to the increased spatial separation between excited state electron and hole wavefunctions for the asymmetric INDs. The structure-property relationships introduced in this work provide invaluable design principles for the generation of high performance materials.

Copper(i)-catalyzed synthesis of natural alkaloid tryptanthrin and its derivatives

Jiankai Hong et al.

Summary: This study describes a mild method for preparing tryptanthrin and its derivatives using copper catalyst with two identical isatins and KHCO3 as a base. More complex tryptanthrin derivatives were also obtained in two steps using two different isatins in one pot. The research highlights the use of readily available starting materials, mild reaction conditions, simple operation, good functional group tolerance, and high yields and selectivity. This transformation not only provides a new method for accessing tryptanthrin and its derivatives but also enriches the chemistry of isatins and copper catalysis.

Acene Ring Size Optimization in Fused Lactam Polymers Enabling High n-Type Organic Thermoelectric Performance

Hu Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, three n-type fused lactam semiconducting polymers were synthesized via a transition-metal free aldol polycondensation method, showing progressively larger electron affinities as the central acene core size decreases. The N-N and A-N polymers exhibited the highest charge carrier mobilities and power factors among the three polymers, representing promising candidates for high-performance n-type materials in thermoelectric applications. The results highlight the effectiveness of modulating the size of the central acene ring as a molecular design strategy to optimize the electronic and thermoelectric performance of conjugated polymers.

Investigating the backbone conformation and configuration effects for donor-acceptor conjugated polymers with ladder-type structures synthesized through Aldol polycondensation

Yen-Wen Huang et al.

Summary: Aldol reaction is a green approach for developing conjugated polymers with ladder-type structures. Copolymerization of electron-deficient bis-isoindigo with electron-rich spacers through Aldol polycondensation results in donor-acceptor CPs with varied conformational flexibility and aggregation behavior. The configurational differences between axisymmetric and centrosymmetric spacers deeply affect the surface morphology and film ductility of the polymers, while their regularity in both conformation and configuration impacts the hole mobility.
