Alleviating effects of salicylic acid spray on stage-based growth and antioxidative defense system in two drought-stressed rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars

Asma et al.

Summary: Approximately 33% of arable land globally is susceptible to drought, greatly impacting the yield and productivity of cereal crops. In this study, two rice genotypes, HTT-138 (drought tolerant) and HTT-39 (drought-sensitive), were evaluated under various water treatments. The results showed reduced leaf gas exchange parameters and water use efficiency under water deficient conditions, but these effects were mitigated by foliar spray of salicylic acid. Overall, salicylic acid application enhanced plant growth and yield in cereal crops, making it a useful tool for abiotic stress environments.

Efficacy of priming wheat (Triticum aestivum) seeds with a benzothiazine derivative to improve drought stress tolerance

Arwa Abdulkreem AL-Huqail et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of a benzothiazine (BTh) derivative on wheat under normal and drought conditions. Drought significantly hindered plant growth, altered plant composition, reduced photosynthetic pigments, and affected nutrient uptake. However, seed priming with BTh alleviated water stress, enhancing plant growth, nutrient uptake, and antioxidant production. These findings suggest that BTh seed priming can effectively improve wheat growth and tolerance to drought stress, benefiting growers and meeting food demand.
