LiNaB6O9F2: A Promising UV NLO Crystal Having Fluorine-Directed Optimal Performances and Double Interpenetrating 3[B6O9F2]∞ Networks

Xiaojing Li et al.

Summary: A fluorine-directed material design strategy is adopted to synthesize LiNaB6O9F2 crystal with double interpenetrating (3)[B6O9F2](infinity) networks, which exhibits enhanced birefringence and phase-matching capacity. LiNaB6O9F2 crystal possesses a perfect balance among deep-UV cutoff edge, large second-harmonic generation response (1.1 x KDP), and moderate birefringence (0.067 at 1064 nm), making it a promising UV NLO crystal.

Double-Modification Oriented Design of a Deep-UV Birefringent Crystal Functionalized by [B12O16F4(OH)4] Clusters

Congcong Jin et al.

Summary: Polarization modulation of deep-UV light is important in current technologies, and a double-modification strategy driven by F and OH anions has been proposed to enhance the critical properties of deep-UV birefringent crystals. A new hydroxyborate crystal with giant cluster structure has been synthesized, exhibiting a large birefringence. Structural and theoretical analysis reveal that the near-plane arrangement of the cluster and the pi-conjugated [BO3] and [BO2OH] units are responsible for the large optical anisotropy.

Promising Deep-Ultraviolet Birefringent Materials via Rational Design and Assembly of Planar π-Conjugated [B(OH)3] and [B3O3(OH)3] Functional Species

Jiahao Jiao et al.

Summary: In this study, a new method for designing deep ultraviolet birefringent materials is proposed by using hydroxylated pi-conjugated [B(OH)(3)] and [B3O3(OH)(3)] units. Four new hydroxyborates were synthesized under mild conditions and showed large birefringence. The Cs-3[B(OH)(3)](2)Cl-3 crystal exhibited a short deep ultraviolet cutoff edge, indicating its potential as a deep ultraviolet birefringent crystal. The free and flexible assembly modes of the pi-conjugated [B(OH)(3)] and [B3O3(OH)(3)] groups make them important genes for exploring promising deep ultraviolet birefringent materials.

Enhancement of Birefringence in Borophosphate Pushing Phase-Matching into the Short-Wavelength Region

Wenbin Zhang et al.

Summary: Borophosphates are widely studied for their short ultraviolet cutoff edge, but their weak polarizability anisotropy hinders their application in the ultraviolet and deep-UV regions. This study successfully synthesized seven borophosphates with improved birefringence by introducing birefringent functional groups. Among them, Rb3B8PO16 exhibited promising UV non-linear optical properties and KB6PO10(OH)4 showed excellent birefringence in the deep-UV region.
