Precipitation behavior of Cu-NiAl nanoscale particles and their effect on mechanical properties in a high strength low alloy steel

Yubin Du et al.

Summary: The precipitation behavior of Cu-NiAl nanoscale particles in high strength low alloy steel and their effects on mechanical properties were systematically studied. It was found that Cu-rich zones nucleated first from the supersaturated solid solution and transformed into Cu-rich particles, promoting the heterogeneous nucleation of isolated NiAl particles. The precipitation sequence was determined to be: supersaturated solid solution -> Cu-rich zones -> Cu-rich particles + isolated NiAl -> Cu-NiAl + isolated NiAl. The NiAl particles continuously coarsened with increasing tempering time, while the Cu-NiAl particles had larger radius and higher number density than the isolated NiAl particles. Tensile testing results showed that NiAl particles exhibited strong precipitation strengthening, resulting in a strength plateau of about 1423-1486 MPa at 2-310 hours. The elongation initially decreased due to the high number density (1.95 x 1024 m-3) of NiAl particles in the 5-hour tempered condition, but gradually increased to 13.0% at 310 hours. The sample tempered for 310 hours showed a beneficial combination of yield strength (1423 MPa) and elongation (13.0%).

Ordered Structure, Dislocation, and Grain Boundary Character Distribution and Their Effects on Warm Deformation in Soft-Magnetic Fe-6.9Si-0.01B Alloy

Guojun Cai et al.

Summary: The study investigates the character distribution of ordered structure, dislocation, and grain boundaries in warm-rolled Fe-6.9Si-0.01B alloy, and reveals that the formation of recrystallized grains varies at different rolling temperatures. Increasing deformation temperature leads to improved plastic deformability of the alloy through a combination of factors such as decreased order degree, recrystallization softening, and optimization of GBCD.

Effect of Cu addition on microstructure, texture and magnetic properties of 6.5 wt% Si electrical steel

Zhaoyang Cheng et al.

Summary: The addition of Cu in the range of 0-1.0 wt% affects the magnetic induction and iron loss of 6.5 wt% Si electrical steel. Cu addition up to 0.7 wt% can slightly increase magnetic induction B50, while the iron loss decreases with increasing Cu addition up to 0.5 wt% before increasing again. The optimum range for achieving the best magnetic properties for 6.5 wt% Si electrical steel is found to be 0.3-0.5 wt% Cu.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the effect of cooling rate on physical properties of Fe-6.5wt%Si alloy by changing melt-spin wheel speeds, which significantly affect the solidification temperature profile, ordering, microstructures, textures, hardness, and magnetic properties. The research shows a critical cooling rate at around 1.7 x 10(5) K/s, below which the material embrittlement occurs due to the increase of ordered phases.

Grain boundary diffusion effect on mineral transition of calcium sulpho-aluminate with sodium dopant

Di Zhang et al.

Summary: Sodium doping has a significant impact on the mineral transformation and crystalline degree of calcium sulpho-aluminate, ultimately affecting its pulverization and alumina leaching property. However, excessive sodium dopant can lower the melting temperature and hinder the phase transformation process, leading to a decrease in pulverization performance.
