CaMYB12-like underlies a major QTL for flavonoid content in pepper (Capsicum annuum) fruit

Yi Wu et al.

Summary: The genetic basis of flavonoid variation in pepper fruit was explored, and a major regulatory gene CaMYB12-like was identified. The study revealed the important role of CaMYB12-like in the regulation of flavonoid content in pepper fruit, and demonstrated the potential for breeding high-flavonoid content in cultivated pepper through transgenic technology.

Fine mapping and identification of candidate genes for fruit color in pepper (Capsicum chinense)

Huangying Shu et al.

Summary: This study constructed a high-density genetic map using two different colored pepper germplasms, and found that fruit color is controlled by a single locus. By transforming two markers into dCAPS markers, a potential gene associated with fruit color was identified. These findings provide fundamental knowledge and a new resource for the genetic improvement and molecular breeding of pepper fruit color.

Identification of Fruit Traits Related QTLs and a Candidate Gene, CaBRX, Controlling Locule Number in Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.)

Xiao Ma et al.

Summary: Fruit traits in pepper, such as length, diameter, shape, weight, and locule number, are controlled by multiple QTLs. In this study, several major QTLs were identified and a novel QTL, lcn1.1, was found to be associated with the gene encoding the BRX protein. Knockdown of CaBRX resulted in a reduction in locule number and altered the expression of genes related to flower and locule development.

QTL Mapping of Resistance to Bacterial Wilt in Pepper Plants (Capsicum annuum) Using Genotyping-by-Sequencing (GBS)

Soo-Young Chae et al.

Summary: In this study, QTL analysis was performed to identify genetic loci and alleles that play a crucial role in resistance to bacterial wilt (BW) in pepper plants. A genetic linkage map was constructed and a QTL on chromosome 01 was identified. These findings are valuable for developing SNP markers associated with BW resistance and breeding elite BW-resistant pepper cultivars.

SPX4 interacts with both PHR1 and PAP1 to regulate critical steps in phosphorus-status-dependent anthocyanin biosynthesis

Yuqing He et al.

Summary: Phosphate is the plant-accessible form of phosphorus, and its deficiency limits plant growth. Studies show that phosphate deficiency can lead to over-accumulation of anthocyanins in plants, and SPX4 plays a role in transmitting the phosphate starvation signal to anthocyanin biosynthesis pathways.

Accumulation characteristics of carotenoids and adaptive fruit color variation in ornamental pepper

Yongmei Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanisms of pigment accumulation in ornamental pepper, focusing on the expression of carotenoid biosynthetic genes and their correlation with fruit color and pigment changes during ripening. Key genes GGPS, PSY, CRTZ-2, and CCS were found to play important regulatory roles in carotenoid accumulation. Correlation analysis showed significant relationships between these genes, as well as negative correlations between chromaticity values and anthocyanin content, and a positive correlation between a* value and carotenoid content in fruits.

Repressors of anthocyanin biosynthesis

Amy M. LaFountain et al.

Summary: Anthocyanins play diverse roles in plants, and their biosynthesis pathway requires sophisticated regulation. Recent studies have found that anthocyanin repressors act through a double-negative logic to regulate anthocyanin production, providing a plausible explanation for the evolution of multiple repressors in plants.

Summary: This article explores the molecular and hormonal mechanisms behind the ripening and quality of fleshy fruits, with a focus on ethylene as the initiator of tomato ripening and the involvement of other hormones such as ABA, JA, and BR in promoting ripening. Light, transcription factors, and non-coding RNAs also play key roles in regulating ripening processes in different fruits.
