Carvacrol protects against carbonyl osmolyte-induced structural modifications and aggregation to serum albumin: Insights from physicochemical and molecular interaction studies

Saheem Ahmad et al.

Summary: This study reveals for the first time the inhibitory effect of carvacrol (CRV) on carbonyl osmolyte-induced protein aggregation and structural alterations. Physicochemical and AI-based molecular docking analyses demonstrate that CRV can protect bovine serum albumin (BSA) from damage caused by carbonyl osmolyte stress, reduce aggregate formation, and restrict covalent modifications of proteins.

The Polyphenolic Profile and Antioxidant Activity of Five Vegetal Extracts with Hepatoprotective Potential

Liliana Costea et al.

Summary: Oxidative stress is a major factor in human functional disorders, and this study aimed to obtain standardized plant extracts containing active compounds that protect liver cells against free radicals. The extracts were analyzed to identify and quantify therapeutic compounds using UHPLC-HRMS/MS. The extracts contained various flavonoids, phenolic acids, and polyphenols. In vitro experiments confirmed the extracts' antioxidant activity, and a correlation was found between the content of polyphenolic compounds and the antioxidant effect. The extracts also showed hepatoprotective potential in silico. This study validates the use of these extracts in phytotherapy due to their ability to reduce oxidative stress and protect liver cells.

Exploring the Binding Pattern of Geraniol with Acetylcholinesterase through In Silico Docking, Molecular Dynamics Simulation, and In Vitro Enzyme Inhibition Kinetics Studies

Danish Iqbal et al.

Summary: Geraniol is a competitive inhibitor of AChE with a high binding affinity, as shown by in vitro and in silico studies. Docking and molecular dynamics simulations confirmed the stable conformation of geraniol in the binding cavity of AChE, suggesting its potential as a natural compound for neurological and neuromuscular disorders.

Alzheimer disease

David S. Knopman et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive impairments. The pathophysiology involves a complex interplay of loss of synaptic homeostasis and dysfunction in endosomal/lysosomal clearance pathways. Therapeutic options are still being sought to substantially alter the clinical course of individuals with Alzheimer's disease.

Amelioration of neuropilin-1 and RAGE/matrix metalloproteinase-2 pathway-induced renal injury in diabetic rats by rosuvastatin

Rabia Nabi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that modulation of NRP-1 by rosuvastatin can prevent diabetic renal injury induced by AGEs by targeting RAGE/matrix metalloproteinase-2 signaling. Treatment with rosuvastatin improved markers of glycemic control, renal injury, lipid levels, and hepatic HMG-CoA reductase activity, while reducing circulatory CML levels and fluorogenic-AGE accumulation in renal tissue. Additionally, rosuvastatin stimulated renal NRP-1 expression and suppressed the transcription of RAGE, NF kappa B-2, TGF-beta 1, and MMP-2, resulting in amelioration of carbonyl content and paraoxonase-1 activity, as well as attenuation of renal histopathological features in diabetic rats.
