Antimicrobial Potential of Betulinic Acid and Investigation of the Mechanism of Action against Nuclear and Metabolic Enzymes with Molecular Modeling

Gabriela Cristina Soares Rodrigues et al.

Summary: Natural products, such as betulinic acid (BA), have important pharmacological activities. This study investigated the antimicrobial activity of BA against various bacteria and fungi. In vitro tests showed that BA inhibited the growth of microbial species, with 75% of the species inhibited at a concentration of 561 μM. Molecular modeling studies revealed the mechanism of action of BA against the selected microorganisms.

Evaluation of potential inhibitory effects on acetylcholinesterase, pancreatic lipase, and cancer cell lines using raw leaves extracts of three fabaceae species

Iram Fatima et al.

Summary: This study examined the biological potential and phytochemicals of Sophora mollis, Mucuna pruriens, and Indigofera atropurpurea leaf extracts. In vitro assays showed the antiacetylcholinesterase and anti-lipase activities of the plant extracts, with S. mollis displaying the highest inhibition percentage for anti-acetylcholinesterase activity and M. pruriens for anti-lipase activity. Cytotoxic potential against different cell lines was observed, with I. atropurpurea showing promising results against the PC3 cell line. High-performance liquid chromatography analysis revealed the presence of various therapeutic compounds in the plant species.

Wound Healing Potential of Couroupita guianensis Aubl. Fruit Pulp Investigated on Excision Wound Model

L. Anna Sheba et al.

Summary: This study investigated the wound healing potential of Couroupita guianensis fruit pulp in rats. The results showed that the ointment prepared from the extract of C. guianensis fruit pulp promoted wound contraction, reduced the wound area, shortened the epithelialization period, and increased hydroxyproline content. The study also found that the extract influenced the expression of VEGF and TGF-beta genes, which are associated with wound healing. These findings provide scientific evidence for the traditional use of this plant in wound healing and suggest its potential as a therapeutic strategy.

Development of New Antimicrobial Oleanonic Acid Polyamine Conjugates

Elmira F. Khusnutdinova et al.

Summary: A series of oleanolic acid derivatives with different long chain polyamines were synthesized and evaluated for their antimicrobial activities. These derivatives showed good to moderate activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including the disruption of the outer bacterial membrane. Computational ADMET profiling suggested that one of the derivatives is a suitable starting point for pharmacokinetic optimization.
