Chromosome-level reference genome assembly provides insights into aroma biosynthesis in passion fruit (Passiflora edulis)

Dongna Ma et al.

Summary: By incorporating PacBio long HiFi reads and Hi-C technology, a chromosome-level genome assembly of passion fruit was achieved. The highly repetitive genome contains 39,309 protein-coding genes, with 93.48% functionally annotated. Genome evolution analysis revealed multiple duplication events, and rapidly expanded gene families were associated with the formation of featured flavors.

The NAC transcription factor ClNAC68 positively regulates sugar content and seed development in watermelon by repressing ClINV and ClGH3.6

Jinfang Wang et al.

Summary: NAC transcription factor ClNAC68 plays a crucial role in fruit ripening and quality by repressing the expression of sucrose metabolism related genes and the IAA signaling pathway gene. Knockout of ClNAC68 leads to decreased soluble solid content and sucrose accumulation in fruit flesh, delayed development and inhibited germination in seeds, and reduced IAA content. These findings provide new insights into how NAC transcription factors affect fruit quality and seed development.

Genome-wide identification and characterization of NAC genes in Brassica juncea var. tumida

Longxing Jiang et al.

Summary: In this study, a total of 300 NAC genes were identified in tumorous stem mustard (Brassica juncea var. tumida), with 278 of them mapped to specific chromosomes. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that these NAC genes can be divided into 18 subgroups across different plant species. The gene structure analysis showed that most NAC genes contain two or three exons, and conservation motif analysis indicated the presence of a NAM domain. Additionally, qRT-PCR data demonstrated differential expression patterns of BjuNAC genes under high- and low-temperature stresses, providing valuable insights for further investigation on the biological functions of these genes in tumorous stem mustard.

The NAC-type transcription factor GmNAC20 improves cold, salinity tolerance, and lateral root formation in transgenic rice plants

Rajesh Yarra et al.

Summary: The NAC-type transcription factor GmNAC20 was successfully transformed into the rice genome through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, leading to enhanced tolerance to salinity and cold stress in transgenic rice plants. The overexpression of GmNAC20 also induced lateral root formation and increased antioxidant enzyme activities, making it a promising candidate for improving abiotic stress tolerance in important food crops.
