Formulation process, physical stability and herbicidal activities of Cymbopogon nardus essential oil-based nanoemulsion

Naphat Somala et al.

Summary: This study formulated nanoemulsions containing citronella essential oil as an herbicidal product. The nanoemulsion showed a significant dose-dependent inhibitory effect on the growth of Echinochloa crus-galli. The findings suggest that this nanoemulsion has potential as an eco-friendly bioherbicide.

Eucalyptus gunnii and Eucalyptus pulverulenta 'Baby Blue' Essential Oils as Potential Natural Herbicides

Cristina Danna et al.

Summary: The essential oils from Eucalyptus gunnii (EG) and E. pulverulenta 'Baby Blue' (EP) were studied for their phytotoxicity and eco-compatibility. EP exhibited higher phytotoxicity and impact on seed germination and radical elongation compared to EG. Both oils were found to be safe for aquatic organisms, indicating their high eco-compatibility.

Antifungal Activities and Mode of Action of Cymbopogon citratus, Thymus vulgraris, and Origanum heracleoticum Essential Oil Vapors against Botrytis cinerea and Their Potential Application to Control Postharvest Strawberry Gray Mold

Jiaqi Yan et al.

Summary: This study identified the antifungal activity of lemongrass, thyme, and oregano essential oils against Botrytis cinerea, attributing the mechanism to altering hyphal morphology and damaging cell membranes. Exposure to the vapors of these essential oils reduced gray mold in strawberries, with thyme and oregano showing strong efficiency in disease index reduction.

Mentha pulegium L.: A Plant Underestimated for Its Toxicity to Be Recovered from the Perspective of the Circular Economy

Lucia Caputo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the micromorphology of Mentha pulegium leaves and flowers harvested in three different Sicilian areas, as well as the phytochemical profile, phytotoxic activity, and eco-compatibility of their essential oils. The results showed that oxygenated monoterpenes were the most abundant class in all the essential oils, and soil salinity strongly affected the expression of the toxic metabolite pulegone. Phytotoxicity tests demonstrated a moderate activity of the essential oils against selected species, suggesting the potential use of the oils as eco-friendly herbicides.
