Deficient copper availability on organoleptic and nutritional quality of tomato fruit

Maria Teresa Lafuente et al.

Summary: Copper deficiency affects the micronutrient contents and nutritional value of tomato fruits. Lower copper levels and changes in other micronutrients occurred in response to Cu deficiency during fruit ripening stages, leading to delayed color change and increased acidity in the fruits. Cu deficiency also increased antioxidant capacity and vitamin C content, as well as total phenolic and flavonoid contents in green fruits.

Effect of potassium intake on cadmium transporters and root cell wall biosynthesis in sweet potato

Baifei Huang et al.

Summary: Large areas of farmland soil in southern China are deficient in potassium (K) and contaminated with cad-mium (Cd). This study investigated the physiological and molecular mechanisms underlying the reduction of Cd accumulation in sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam) through K supplementation. Results showed that K supply inhibited the expression of Cd transporters and increased Cd retention in the roots. Additionally, K promoted the biosynthesis of lignin and cellulose, reducing Cd translocation to the shoot, and also influenced the production of ethylene and trehalose, which are involved in plant resistance to Cd toxicity.

Relative humidity regimes modif y epicuticular wax metabolism and fruit properties during Navelate orange conservation in an ABA-dependent manner

Paco Romero et al.

Summary: Relative humidity and the chemical composition of the epicuticular wax layer are key factors determining fruit quality and weight loss. Low humidity conditions can impact the abundance of alcohols and fatty acids, while abscisic acid plays a role in mediating wax compositional changes under different humidity levels.

Physiological and Molecular Mechanisms of Plant Responses to Copper Stress

Guang Chen et al.

Summary: Copper is an essential micronutrient that plays important roles in various biological processes. However, excess copper can have detrimental effects on plant growth and development. This review summarizes the biological functions of copper, the toxicity of excess copper to plants, and the transport process and detoxification mechanisms of copper in plants.

Identification and molecular characterization of the high-affinity copper transporters family in Solanum lycopersicum

Paco Romero et al.

Summary: This study identified and characterized a six-member family of COPT in tomato, showing the variable presence of essential elements required for their functionality among members. Functional complementation assays revealed that SlCOPT1 and SlCOPT2 can transport copper inside the cell. Additionally, protein interaction network analyses demonstrated connections between SlCOPTs and other metal transporters and proteins related to the peroxisome.

Summary: This study identified and characterized the MsCOPT gene family in alfalfa, revealing their high transcription levels in roots and nodules which may play crucial roles in copper absorption and transport. Analysis of gene structure indicated that chromosomal and tandem duplications contributed to the evolution of these genes.
