Preliminary Dissection of Grain Yield and Related Traits at Differential Nitrogen Levels in Diverse Pre-Breeding Wheat Germplasm Through Association Mapping

Achla Sharma et al.

Summary: Development of nutrient efficient cultivars relies on effective identification and utilization of genetic variation. In this study, we characterized a set of pre-breeding lines (PBLs) and found significant variation in various traits among PBLs at different nitrogen doses. Plant height, tiller number, and biological yield showed positive correlation with nitrogen application. Genetic association analysis identified several marker-trait associations, with some markers explaining a large proportion of phenotypic variance. Additionally, a number of PBLs exhibited higher grain yield compared to checks, indicating their potential as donors for improving plant nitrogen use efficiency.

Multiple functions of heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins in the positive single-stranded RNA virus life cycle

Jingming Wang et al.

Summary: Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) are RNA binding proteins that play diverse roles in RNA metabolism. Depending on their cellular localization, hnRNPs can bind to viral RNA or proteins during virus infection, and regulate viral translation, genome replication, and virion release. This review highlights the common features and distinct roles of hnRNPs in the life cycle of positive single-stranded RNA viruses.

Crystal structure of transcription factor TGA7 from Arabidopsis

Xueqi Shi et al.

Summary: The TGA family of transcription factors plays crucial roles in plant systemic acquired resistance (SAR). In this study, the crystal structure of TGA7 dimers was determined, showing that each monomer binds to one molecule of palmitate. Further investigation revealed that TGA7 specifically binds to the TGACG boxes of as-1 DNA as homodimers, with specific requirements for the spacing and orientation of the two TGACG boxes. Additionally, a TGA7-DNA complex model was built, and a key residue, R109, in the DNA binding domain of TGA7 was identified to be responsible for DNA recognition.
