Cannabinoids: Therapeutic Use in Clinical Practice

Cristina Pagano et al.

Summary: Medical case reports suggest that cannabinoids extracted from Cannabis sativa have therapeutic effects, but their use is limited due to the psychotropic effect of its major component THC. New scientific discoveries have led to the development of new therapeutic targets to minimize the undesirable effects of certain constituents. FDA-approved drugs have shown efficacy in treating multiple sclerosis, cancer, and AIDS-related anorexia. This review highlights the potential therapeutic efficacy of cannabinoids in various diseases.

Inhaled nitric oxide reduces injury and microglia activation in porcine hippocampus after deep hypothermic circulatory arrest

Masaki Kajimoto et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that inhaled NO (iNO) can reduce neuronal degeneration in the hippocampus and decrease microglial activation after deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA), potentially serving as a practical mode of neuroprotection for infants undergoing DHCA.

Triptolide improves neurobehavioral functions, inflammation, and oxidative stress in rats under deep hypothermic circulatory arrest

Qiang Chen et al.

Summary: This study found that TPL improved neurobehavioral functions, reduced neuroinflammation and oxidative stress, and inhibited microglial activation and cell death in DHCA rats. Additionally, TPL activated the Nrf2 pathway and suppressed NF-kappa B activity, suggesting potential mechanisms for its neuroprotective effects.

Differential expression profiles of circular RNAs in the rat hippocampus after deep hypothermic circulatory arrest

Yi-Ai Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated changes in the expression profiles of circRNAs in the hippocampus of rats undergoing DHCA, identifying differentially expressed circRNAs and confirming the expression changes of selected circRNAs. Bioinformatic analysis suggested potential roles of these circRNAs in metabolism and signaling pathways, indicating their involvement in brain injury associated with DHCA and suggesting a potential therapeutic target for neurological dysfunction.

The Endocannabinoid System: A Potential Target for the Treatment of Various Diseases

Henry Lowe et al.

Summary: The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) plays a crucial role in maintaining internal balance in biological systems and is implicated in various diseases. In recent years, there has been significant interest in manipulating the ECS for medical purposes, offering promising opportunities for developing novel cannabinoid-based therapeutic drugs for the treatment of a range of diseases.
