Increased top-down control of emotions during symptom provocation working memory tasks following a RCT of alpha-down neurofeedback in PTSD

Saurabh Bhaskar Shaw et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of alpha-down neurofeedback on PTSD symptoms and brain activity under cognitive load with emotion provocation. The findings suggest that alpha-down neurofeedback can improve symptom severity and enhance top-down cognitive and emotional control as well as default mode network integration in individuals with PTSD.

Alpha band neurofeedback training based on a portable device improves working memory performance of young people

Xiao Yu Chen et al.

Summary: This study developed a low-cost and portable Neurofeedback Training (NFT) system based on real-time EEG brain-computer interface (BCI) to explore the effectiveness of NFT in regulating working memory (WM) levels using alpha waves. The results showed that after training, the NFT group had significantly enhanced alpha band power in the prefrontal cortex and occipital cortex, higher beta and gamma band activity in comparison to other regions, and a lower WM error rate compared to the control group.

A BCI painting system using a hybrid control approach based on SSVEP and P300

Zhichuan Tang et al.

Summary: Brain-computer interfaces, specifically the BCI painting system developed in this study, have shown potential in helping individuals with disabilities to express themselves through art. The system utilizes a hybrid control approach based on SSVEP and P300 to enable brain-controlled painting tools. Results from the experiments demonstrate that the BCI painting system outperforms traditional brain painting systems in terms of tool selection accuracy and information transfer rate, offering users improved artistic creativity expression and painting efficiency.

Attention neuroenhancement through tDCS or neurofeedback: a randomized, single-blind, controlled trial

Gabriel Gaudencio Rego et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of neurofeedback and tDCS on attentional performance in healthy participants and found no significant differences between the two techniques at both the behavioral and electrophysiological levels. However, participants from both groups reported subjective improvements in attention, suggesting a placebo effect. These findings highlight the complexity of neuroenhancement techniques and the need for further research in this field.

The default mode network: where the idiosyncratic self meets the shared social world

Yaara Yeshurun et al.

Summary: The default mode network integrates external and internal information over long timescales to represent shared meaning. It is a "sense-making" network that forms rich contextual models by integrating external and intrinsic information.

Creativity and Well-being: A Meta-analysis

Selcuk Acar et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis study examined the relationship between creativity and well-being, finding that the relationship was stronger when creativity was measured using instruments focused on creative activity and behavior, compared to divergent thinking tasks. The study also highlighted the importance of how creativity is measured in influencing the relationship with well-being.
