Inhibition of histamine accumulation by novel histamine-degrading species of Staphylococcus sp. isolated from goats and sheep milk

Safoora Pashangeh et al.

Summary: This study identified histamine-degrading bacteria in goat and sheep milk in Iran and showed that histamine-degrading activity is a crucial criterion for introducing fermenting organisms to reduce histamine content in various food products. Seven Staphylococcus species were found to be capable of degrading histamine, which was previously unknown.

Effect of Cephalosporin Treatment on the Microbiota and Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Feces of Dairy Cows with Clinical Mastitis

Lei Dong et al.

Summary: The effects of ceftiofur and cefquinome on the fecal microbiota and antibiotic resistance genes of dairy cows with mastitis were investigated in this study. The results showed that cephalosporin treatment significantly decreased microbial diversity and richness, and increased the relative abundance of certain bacterial taxa and two beta-lactam resistance genes.

Antimicrobial resistance in commensal Staphylococcus aureus from wild ungulates is driven by agricultural land cover and livestock farming

Beatriz Ramos et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the presence of Staphylococcus aureus in wild ungulates and determine its relationship with clinical and food-chain settings. The results showed the existence of methicillin-resistant and phenotypically linezolid-resistant S. aureus in wild boar and red deer, indicating the occurrence of resistance in wildlife. Genotypic analysis revealed some clonal lineages that are also found in humans and livestock. Additionally, the study identified that land use, human disturbance, and host-related factors determine the occurrence of resistance.

Antibiotics Resistance and Virulence of Staphylococcus aureus Isolates Isolated from Raw Milk from Handmade Dairy Retail Stores in Hefei City, China

Hui Wang et al.

Summary: Handmade dairy products have become popular in China recently, but there has been no investigation into the characteristics of Staphylococcus aureus in the raw milk from handmade dairy retail stores. In this study, the antimicrobial susceptibility, virulence, biofilm formation, and genetic diversity of S. aureus in raw milk from handmade dairy retail stores in Hefei, China were investigated. The results showed that S. aureus in raw milk may pose a risk of food poisoning, and more attention should be given to awareness and hygienic measures in the food industry.

Prevalence and Characterization of Coagulase Positive Staphylococci from Food Products and Human Specimens in Egypt

Eman E. Abdeen et al.

Summary: The study found methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains in food and human samples, with over half of the samples carrying the mecA gene, indicating a potential risk for disease transmission through the food chain. Further research should focus on additional epidemiological aspects of MRSA strains in the food chain.

Antimicrobial resistance, virulence genes and biofilm formation in Enterococcus species isolated from milk of sheep and goat with subclinical mastitis

Mona A. El-Zamkan et al.

Summary: This study revealed that Enterococcus strains isolated from sheep and goat milk in Qena, Egypt exhibited multidrug resistance to various antibiotics, with most strains capable of forming biofilms. The isolates also carried a range of resistance and virulence genes, showing a significant correlation between biofilm formation, multidrug resistance, and virulence genes. Continued monitoring and surveillance of dairy animals is necessary to address the virulence and harmfulness of these Enterococcus strains isolated from subclinical mastitic milk.

Bovine Milk Microbiota: Comparison among Three Different DNA Extraction Protocols To Identify a Better Approach for Bacterial Analysis

Paola Cremonesi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that different DNA extraction protocols can significantly impact the microbial population composition in milk samples, highlighting the importance of choosing the appropriate extraction method. The findings suggest that milk, as a complex source, plays a critical role in generating high-quality DNA for microbiota analysis and that attention should be paid when comparing studies using different extraction procedures.
