Quality of Cuttlefish as Affected by Different Thawing Methods

Ying Lv et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of different thawing methods on the quality of frozen cuttlefish. The results showed that saline solution thawing and ultrasonic water thawing were more suitable for thawing cuttlefish, providing a theoretical basis for the selection of thawing methods in the actual production.

Rapid Differentiation of Unfrozen and Frozen-Thawed Tuna with Non-Destructive Methods and Classification Models: Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR) and Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR)

Sonia Nieto-Ortega et al.

Summary: This study compared the performances of three non-destructive sensors (BIA, NIR, and TDR) in discriminating between unfrozen and frozen-thawed fish. The results showed that all three sensors performed satisfactorily, with NIR demonstrating the best performance.

Quantitation of Water Addition in Octopus Using Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR): Development of a Rapid and Non-Destructive Food Analysis Method

Barbara Teixeira et al.

Summary: A rapid and non-destructive method based on TDR analysis was developed to detect and quantify water content in octopus muscles, allowing for control of abusive water addition. This method can be used by the industry and quality control inspections for assessment of octopus quality and compliance with legislation, contributing to sustainable resource use.

Fisheries for common octopus in Europe: socioeconomic importance and management

Cristina Pita et al.

Summary: The EU is a major market for cephalopods globally, and small-scale artisanal common octopus fisheries in Southern Europe are socially and economically important, with varying management measures and industry participation levels. This study focuses on Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Greece, comparing their current fisheries status, socio-economic importance, management arrangements, and future prospects, highlighting the lack of detailed data collection on the socioeconomic aspects of octopus fisheries in Europe.
