Ruminant and industrial trans-fatty acids consumption and cardiometabolic risk markers: A systematic review

Barbara Julia Fonseca Verneque et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the effect of industrially and ruminants TFA intake on cardiometabolic risk in adults. The results showed that both sources of TFA can increase cardiometabolic risk parameters, especially lipid profile.

Performance and milk quality parameters of Jersey crossbreds in low-input dairy systems

Sabrina Ormston et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of Jersey crossbreeding on dairy cows' productivity, health, fertility parameters, and milk nutritional quality in low-input farming. The results showed that Jersey crossbred cows had higher milk yield, fat, protein, and casein content compared to Holstein-Friesian cows. They also showed higher feed, fat, and protein efficiency, as well as a shorter calving interval. The study suggests that using Jersey crossbred cows in low-input dairy farming can improve efficiency and productivity without compromising milk nutritional properties.

Comparing productivity and feed-use efficiency between organic and conventional livestock animals

Ulysse Gaudare et al.

Summary: Livestock productivity is found to be 12% lower in organic farming compared to conventional farming, with significant differences in feeding strategy and feed use efficiency. However, organic dairy cattle have a 46% lower human-food vs animal-feed competition, which contributes to the sustainability of organic livestock management.

Macromineral and trace element concentrations and their seasonal variation in milk from organic and conventional dairy herds

Nanbing Qin et al.

Summary: Organic milk generally had higher levels of major nutrients compared to conventional milk, but lower levels of trace elements. Seasonal variations were observed in all mineral concentrations. Dietary factors, such as intake of different types of feed, played a significant role in the differences in milk mineral concentrations between organic and conventional production systems.

Revisiting the Relationships between Fat-to-Protein Ratio in Milk and Energy Balance in Dairy Cows of Different Parities, and at Different Stages of Lactation

Edward H. Cabezas-Garcia et al.

Summary: The study found a negative correlation between fat-to-protein ratio (FPR) and energy balance (EB) in cows, with this relationship becoming more negative with increased parity. While FPR can provide an indication of EB at a herd level, it cannot accurately predict the EB of individual cows.
