Effects of supplementing pomegranate peel with fatty acid sources on oxidative stress, blood metabolites, and milk production of dairy cows fed high-concentrate diets

B. Akhlaghi et al.

Summary: Primiparous cows are more susceptible to oxidative stress than multiparous cows due to their lower total antioxidant capacity. The study evaluated the effects of adding different fatty acid sources and pomegranate peel to the diet of primiparous lactating cows on oxidative stress, blood metabolites, lactation performance, and nutrient digestibility. Results showed that adding pomegranate peels increased total dietary antioxidant concentrations, while fish oil reduced the n-6 to n-3 ratio in the experimental diets.

Pomegranate peel anthocyanins prevent diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance in association with modulation of the gut microbiota in mice

Haizhao Song et al.

Summary: This study suggests that pomegranate peel anthocyanins (PPA) have potential benefits in alleviating high-fat diet-induced obesity and related metabolic disorders. By modulating the gut microbiota and lipid metabolism, PPA can reduce body weight gain, steatosis scores, and insulin resistance. These findings provide a theoretical basis for PPA as a potential therapeutic option for obesity.

Summary: Grapes and grape/wine byproducts are rich in polyphenols and can be used to develop different types of beverages. This study found that drying temperature affects the sensory and chemical properties of fermented grape pomace infusions, while different organic matrices alter the characteristics of the infusions. Furthermore, grape pomace dehydrated at 70 degrees C resulted in infusions with higher pH, Brix value, and phenolic compound concentration. Although the infusions had a bitter taste and astringent sensation, the addition of natural flavors, such as honey, improved the sensory experience.
