Preemptive cyclosporin A in immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura

Health following recovery from immune thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura: the patient's perspective

Rachel A. Kelley et al.

Summary: This study utilized qualitative methodology to understand the impact of residual symptoms on daily activities and communication with hematologists in patients recovering from iTTP. The most important symptoms affecting daily activities were cognitive issues, anxiety, depression, and fatigue. Patients often forgot to communicate these symptoms with their hematologists. To improve care, hematologists should incorporate patient-reported outcome measures for evaluating these symptoms during remission visits.

Race, Racism, and Cardiovascular Health: Applying a Social Determinants of Health Framework to Racial/Ethnic Disparities in Cardiovascular Disease

Zulqarnain Javed et al.

Summary: Health care in the United States has made many innovations and successes in the past decades. However, the color of a person's skin still plays a significant role in determining their prospects of wellness and the quality of care they receive. Disparities in cardiovascular disease (CVD) serve as a stark reminder of social injustices and racial inequities that persist in society. People of color experience social disadvantages that increase their risk of CVD and poor disease outcomes. This review applies a comprehensive social determinants of health framework to understand how structural racism affects the health burden and increases the risk of CVD for historically underserved racial and ethnic groups.

Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of mortality among TTP survivors in clinical remission

Senthil Sukumar et al.

Summary: Survivors of immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP) experience higher rates of adverse health outcomes and increased mortality over long-term follow-up. Cardiovascular disease and relapsed iTTP are leading causes of death, and factors such as male sex, increasing age, and the number of iTTP episodes are associated with mortality.

Daratumumab for immune thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura

Jana van den Berg et al.

Summary: Immune thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP) is a life-threatening disease that can be treated with the anti-CD38 antibody daratumumab to eradicate persistent ADAMTS13 inhibitory autoantibodies and restore normal ADAMTS13 activity.

Summary: Pregnancy in women with prior iTTP is associated with a high risk of relapse and fetal loss. The occurrence of preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome is also higher in this population compared to the general population.

Health Disparities Across the Continuum of ASCVD Risk

Ankita Devareddy et al.

Summary: This review discusses the current state of health disparities in cardiovascular disease, focusing on the impact of social determinants of health and structural racism on cardiovascular outcomes. Significant disparities exist in cardiovascular health among different racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups. These disparities begin in childhood and continue into adulthood.

Redefining outcomes in immune TTP: an international working group consensus report

Adam Cuker et al.

Summary: Immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP) is a potentially fatal disease caused by severe deficiency of ADAMTS13, and standardized definitions of response and exacerbation primarily based on platelet count have been modified to incorporate ADAMTS13 activity and the effects of anti-VWF therapy. The revised definitions distinguish between clinical and ADAMTS13 remission and relapse, and are benchmarked against not only the timing of discontinuation of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) but also that of anti-VWF therapy. Validation of the revised definitions is retrospective, with discussion on the clinical implications of the updated outcome definitions.

Major adverse cardiovascular events in survivors of immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura

Max A. Brodsky et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death in survivors of immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP). Research shows that iTTP survivors have a high prevalence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) during clinical remission, with younger individuals being particularly susceptible to stroke and myocardial infarction.
