Mechanism of homocysteine-mediated endothelial injury and its consequences for atherosclerosis

Deqiang Yuan et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the mechanism of Hcy-induced endothelial injury and the treatment methods to alleviate the Hcy induced endothelial dysfunction, in order to provide new thoughts for the diagnosis and treatment of Hcy-induced endothelial injury and subsequent AS-related diseases.

The delayed effects of acute radiation exposure (DEARE): characteristics, mechanisms, animal models, and promising medical countermeasures

Tong Wu et al.

Summary: The use of nuclear weapons by terrorists and radiation accidents pose a risk of life-threatening levels of radiation exposure to humans. There is an urgent need to develop effective medical countermeasures for radiation exposure, which relies on reliable and well-characterized animal models. While animal models for acute radiation syndrome have been developed and FDA-approved treatments are available, there are currently no licensed medical countermeasures for delayed effects of acute radiation exposure (DEARE).

The Controversial Role of HCY and Vitamin B Deficiency in Cardiovascular Diseases

Wolfgang Herrmann et al.

Summary: Plasma homocysteine is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and stroke, but lowering homocysteine through B-vitamin supplementation does not effectively reduce cardiovascular disease risk. Homocysteine can increase oxidative stress, cause endoplasmic reticulum stress, alter DNA methylation, and modulate the expression of various genes. It can also directly bind to proteins and change protein function. The role of hyperhomocysteinemia and B-vitamin deficiencies in cardiovascular disease is still subject to debate.

Impact of Age, Sex, and Genetic Diversity in Murine Models of the Hematopoietic Acute Radiation Syndrome (H-ARS) and the Delayed Effects of Acute Radiation Exposure (DEARE)

Christie M. Orschell et al.

Summary: This review discusses critical factors in the development of murine models for H-ARS and DEARE, including the impact of age, sex, and genetic diversity on radiation responses. Recent studies have found that murine radioresistance increases with age, with higher resistance observed in male weanlings, pubescent females, and aged males. Jackson diversity outbred (JDO) mice and weanling models exhibit less DEARE compared to other models.

The Effect of Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Capacity of Diet on Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Phenotype: Nutrition as Therapeutic Tool?

Pelagia Katsimbri et al.

Summary: Chronic inflammation and increased oxidative stress contribute to non-communicable diseases, with dietary nutrients playing a role in immune system activation. Obesity is a major risk factor for psoriasis, which may be improved with strict dietary interventions and weight management. Further research is needed on the effects of different nutritional patterns on chronic inflammation and immune response in psoriasis.

Sex-dependent effects of genetic upregulation of activated protein C on delayed effects of acute radiation exposure in the mouse heart, small intestine, and skin

Vijayalakshmi Sridharan et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that prolonged high levels of APC had minimal effects on indicators of DEARE in the heart, small intestine, and skin, with some differential effects between male and female mice.
