Multi-objective optimization of performance and emission characteristics of a CRDI diesel engine fueled with sapota methyl ester/diesel blends

Ravikumar Jayabal et al.

Summary: This study investigates the combined effect of compression ratio and exhaust gas recirculation on the combustion, performance, and emissions of a common rail direct injection engine fueled by a blend of sapota methyl ester and diesel. The results show that increasing the compression ratio reduces ignition delay and increases heat release rate. Higher exhaust gas recirculation rates reduce nitrogen oxide emissions but increase smoke opacity. The use of the biodiesel blend reduces hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions compared to neat diesel. The optimal condition for improved combustion, performance, energy, and reduced emissions is a 50% biodiesel blend with a compression ratio of 16 and an exhaust gas recirculation rate of 20%.

Experimental investigation of flame stability in the premixed propane-air combustion in two-section porous media burner

V. Bubnovich et al.

Summary: Experimental investigation was conducted on combustion characteristics and flame stabilization within a two-layer porous media burner. The combustion wave propagation rate was found to increase with increased inlet velocity and decreased equivalence ratio. A porous burner with flame stabilized between two porous ceramics was successfully built, showing complete combustion with low CO and NOx emissions.
