Silicon Monoxide Carbonized by Fluorocarbon As a Composite Material for Anodes of Lithium-Ion Batteries

D. A. Lozhkina et al.

Summary: Disperse composite materials SiO/C have been obtained by thermal treatment of SiO and CF0.8 powder mixture. The formation of silicon carbide in the solid-phase product, including nanowhiskers of cubic modification, has been confirmed at temperatures above 1100 degrees C. The decrease in capacitance and Coulomb efficiency of anodes prepared from the composites above 1100 degrees C is attributed to an increase in oxygen concentration surrounding silicon precipitates formed due to SiO disproportionation. The optimal annealing temperature for the highest electrode capacitance, first cycle Coulomb efficiency, and ability to operate at high current densities is determined to be 1050 degrees C.

Ab initio study of hydrogen storage on metal-decorated GeC monolayers

Lucia Guadalupe Arellano et al.

Summary: Bidimensional nanostructures have been proposed as hydrogen-storage systems due to their large surface-to-volume ratios. The adsorption of H-2 molecules on Germanium carbide monolayers (GeC-MLs) decorated with alkali metal (AM) and alkaline earth metal (AEM) adatoms was investigated, showing that AM adatoms improved the H-2 adsorption while AEM adatoms presented negligible adsorption energies. Potassium-decorated GeC-ML exhibited the most optimal H-2 storage capacity, adsorbing up to six molecules with lower possibility of forming metal clusters.
