Effect of EG particle size on the thermal properties of NaNO3-NaCl/EG shaped composite phase change materials

Y. Li et al.

Summary: The research demonstrated that the adsorption capacity of EG increases with decreasing particle size, making it suitable as an adsorption carrier for NaNO3-NaCl. Compared to pure NaNO3-NaCl, NaNO3-NaCl/EG has lower degree of supercooling and enhanced heat storage capacity.

Global trade in the Anthropocene: A review of trends and direction of environmental factor flows during the Great Acceleration

John Brolin et al.

Summary: Global trade is often overlooked in discussions about the Anthropocene, but it has a significant impact on the shifting of environmental burdens. The role of trade in environmental factor flows differs between different historical periods, with a focus on the Great Acceleration. The concern lies in whether these flows benefit all economies and environments, or if they result in the exploitation of poorer countries by wealthier ones. Similar trends in flows can be observed between different world regions, as well as between developed and developing countries.

A systematic study on the reaction mechanisms for the microencapsulation of a volatile phase change material (PCM) via one-step in situ polymerisation

Abdullah Naseer Mustapha et al.

Summary: The encapsulation of volatile phase change materials (PCMs) using microencapsulation is a challenging task due to the need for high payload and excellent barrier properties. This study explores the use of different hydrocolloid and synthetic emulsifiers to understand the reaction mechanisms in the encapsulation process. The results show that the quality of the microcapsules is greatly influenced by the functional groups on the emulsifiers. The size of the urea-formaldehyde (UF) particles affects the stability of the microcapsules, with carboxyl groups leading to porous microcapsules due to the accelerated reaction rate. Additionally, it is found that hydroxyl-based emulsifiers produce UF particles that are too small to maintain controlled deposition.

Effects of Pore Structure and Pore Size of Expanded Graphite on the Properties of Paraffin Wax/Expanded Graphite Composite Phase Change Materials

Lipin Feng et al.

Summary: The effects of pore structure and pore size of porous carrier material on the phase transformation behavior of composite phase change materials (CPCMs) were studied. It was found that the addition of expanded graphites (EGs) could reduce the supercooling degree and improve the thermal conductivity of CPCMs. The web-like pore structure of EG-50 exhibited better performance, while decreasing pore size led to a decrease in phase transition temperature.

Ternary composite phase change materials (PCMs) towards low phase separation and supercooling: eutectic behaviors and application

Xianghai Xing et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel composite phase change material (PCM) consisting of a mixed solution of inorganic salt and organic salt was developed and characterized. Different weight percentages of sodium formate, potassium chloride, and water were evaluated to determine the optimal performance. The addition of xanthan gum and nano-TiO2 as gelling and nucleating agents, respectively, effectively improved the properties of the PCM by preventing phase separation, leakage, and reducing supercooling. The tested PCM showed excellent suitability for frozen food storage and transportation.
