Calcium/iron-layered double hydroxides-sodium alginate for removal of tetracycline antibiotic from aqueous solution

Marwa F. Abed et al.

Summary: The current study aims to produce a new adsorbent from chicken eggshell waste, with a focus on recycling such waste for sustainable purposes. Calcium ions are extracted from eggshells and mixed with iron to prepare calcium/iron nanoparticles. These nanoparticles are then immobilized using sodium alginate to form spherical particles for the removal of tetracycline antibiotic from aquatic environments.

Precipitation of (Mg/Fe-CTAB)-Layered double hydroxide nanoparticles onto sewage sludge for producing novel sorbent to remove Congo red and methylene blue dyes from aqueous environment

Ayad A. H. Faisal et al.

Summary: The focal point of this work was to prepare a new sorbent for removing anionic and cationic dyes from sewage sludge byproduct by precipitating nano-sized (Mg/Fe-CTAB)-layered double hydroxide (LDH) on the sludge surfaces. The optimal preparation conditions were determined to be a CTAB mass of 0.03 g/50 mL, a sludge dosage of 1 g/50 mL, and a (Mg/Fe) molar ratio of 2. The sorbent exhibited efficiencies exceeding 93% for MB and CR dyes.

Biochar for the removal of contaminants from soil and water: a review

Muqing Qiu et al.

Summary: Biochar has significant potential as a material for remediating water and soil due to its widespread availability and favorable physio-chemical surface characteristics. Its efficacy in managing contaminants depends on factors such as pyrolysis temperature, feedstock type, and surface properties. Higher temperature biochar is effective for managing organic pollutants, while lower temperature biochar is suitable for removing polar organic and inorganic pollutants. This review also discusses current obstacles and future research directions in using biochar to immobilize contaminants in water and soil.

MgAl-Layered double hydroxide for amoxicillin removal from aqueous media

Amina Elhaci et al.

Summary: The study investigated the removal of AMX from aqueous media by MgAl-Layered double hydroxide (LDH). The adsorption process was found to be spontaneous, endothermic, and mainly occurred through a chemisorption mechanism. LDH showed a high maximum monolayer adsorption capacity for AMX, and the retention capacity was not reduced in triplicate regeneration tests.

Ayad A. H. Faisal et al.

Summary: The study utilized nanoparticles of humic acid and iron oxide impregnated on inert sand to create sorbent for treating groundwater contaminants. Batch tests showed high removal efficiencies of metal ions under specific conditions. Kinetic studies indicated physicosorption as the main mechanism, with Langmuir model calculating adsorption capacities of 25.273 and 114.142 mg/g for cadmium and copper ions.
