Comparative genomics and molecular epidemiology of colistin-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii

Jovana Kabic et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and resistance mechanisms of colistin-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (ColRAB) isolates in Serbia, assess their genetic relatedness to other circulating A. baumannii isolates in the neighbouring European countries, and analyse the global genomic epidemiology of ColRAB isolates. The findings reveal the central role of the twocomponent regulating system, PmrAB, and increased expression of the pmrC gene in colistin resistance in A. baumannii. The study also highlights the global dissemination of several high-risk clonal lineages of ColRAB isolates.

Summary: Multi-CSAR is a web server that efficiently orders and orients the contigs in the assembly of a target genome based on multiple reference genomes. It identifies shared sequence markers between the target genome and each reference genome, computes scaffolds based on each reference genome, and then combines them into a multiple reference-derived scaffold. Users can upload target and reference genomes, choose weighting schemes and marker identification methods. The output includes graphical representations and detailed tables for validation.

Role of Efflux Pumps on Antimicrobial Resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Andre Bittencourt Lorusso et al.

Summary: Antimicrobial resistance is a global public health crisis caused by the emergence of resistant organisms and different mechanisms of antibiotic resistance. Efflux pumps, particularly in Gram-negative bacteria like Pseudomonas aeruginosa, play a significant role in multidrug resistance and extensively drug-resistant bacteria. Understanding their function, structure, and regulation is essential in combating antibiotic resistance and developing new drugs.
